We left Shanghai this morning... it was a nightmare! First we stood in line for China Eastern Airline, but it was the wrong line (all signs in Chinese). Then we stood in line for half an hour to find out that our suitcases are too heavy and we had to pay before we could get our boarding passes. The only problem was that we had to go to a different line to pay and that line was about 200 yards long. That was at least an hour or more of wait, so I went directly in front of the line and dropped the cash on the table! Problem solved!
We made it through passport control but Janine got stopped at security for all her liquids (shampoo and apple cider vinegar in travel size plastic bottles). They sniffed the bottles, tried to read the labels (it was just the barcode for the travel size plastic bottle from Walmart) and finally called a supervisor. Janine was logged in their "suspicious book" and had to throw the bottles out. It was funny, because their English was not good enough to understand our explanations, especially what we use the vinegar for.
I had enough of Chinese bureaucracy and unfriendliness and was not unhappy to leave that country.
Just before boarding the plane we got a small cappuccino - almost $10 each and in a paper cup. Good bye China!
