Today, we had our big professional shopping tour with Claire, our guide. That was Janine's great idea, because we had a chauffeur (transportation takes a lot of time in such a big city) and someone telling us where to shop for the best quality and price. Claire also speaks Chinese and that helps with the very time consuming haggling (Janine is really good at it too - hardcore haggler!).
First we went to the Fabric Market where we ordered tailored coats (cashmere) and dresses. They will be shipped to us.
Then we went to the Ceramic Shops, where you could buy modern, aesthetic ceramics.
Next stop was the Silk Shop. They showed how silk is harvested from cocoons and spun to beautiful fabric. We bought silk duvets, pillows and duvet covers.
Chinese lunch was excellent - specially with a knowledgeable guide. After that we walked through a local food market and Claire explained the different vegetables, fruit, seafood and meats.
The Pearl Market was the last stop. We bought different jewlery, especially pearls in all shapes and colors. By now we have bought so much that we needed to buy another suitcase.
That shopping trip was definitely worthwhile and we were ordering more goods after returning home.
