Hello everyone! Had a really good week since I last wrote. Except I've just uploaded all the photos and they are in such a random order!
So I think the last time I wrote was in Wellington, from there we got the ferry at 7.00am to Picton in the South Island and went straight to Nelson. Nelson is called a 'city' despite only having 50,000 people there, so it was pretty small. For some reason it reminded me of Nailsea, but much prettier. The accomadation was soooo nice, it was a recently refurblished pub, which was basically a hotel, but only cost us the usual amount of about 9pounds. And we got a room of 4 with an ensuite! There wasn't really much to do in the 2 evenings so we just sat around and played cards with some people. There's this really cool boy we've met who is so funny! Katie, I have to say he's in the same league as Lindsey Waller. And I taught him and this Canadian girl Donkey, Pass, Sevens, and cheat. They loved them all. The next day me and Becky climbed to the top of a little mountain that was the centre point of the whole of New Zealand, was pretty nice.
The next day we went to Westport, and I can't really remember much about that so it can't have been that great. Oh yea, we went for a bonfire in the evening on the beach, that was nice, and got bitten quite a lot.
Then we went onto Lake Mahanipua. It was in the middle of Absolutely nowhere and we were the only ones staying at the Lodge. Was very basic but different. It was near the lake and the sea, but me and becky were going to go down to the lake in the evening to see the sun set but it was a little too scary for us so we turned back! Just played cards again that evening and went to bed quite early.
Then we headed to Franz Joseph. It is the smallest town ever, only one street, but full with tourists who are climbing the glacier. It was quite fun climbing it, and not that cold. Becky was in shorts! It was pretty amazing really, there's only 3 in the world and that's the only one to be surrounded by a rainforest, because of the wierd tropical climate down here. We've been very lucky with the weather here, apparently it rains about 200days of the year in the south island. So my feet are killing now from the ice boot things we had to wear, they've been rubbed raw at the back.
From Franz Joseph we went to Lake Wanika. And that has to be by far the most beautiful place I've been to. Sadly we arrived late and had to leave early the next day. But it was a massive lake in a little holiday town, surrounded by massive mountains, some of which had snow on top, in the middle of SUMMER!!!! In winter it is transformed into a ski resort, except theres no skilifts so you have to go 'heliskiing'. I want to get a holiday home over there!
And today we are in Queenstown, the adrenaline capital of New Zealand, or I think of the world. Just as we were driving in, we stopped off at the bungy place. So I got off and did one. It was only 43m so I didn't fall for long enough but it was sooo amazing. I've tried to upload my DVD but it wont let me, so i might send it home. I was one of the first to do it, so literally, 20mins after we arrived I had jumped. It was such an amazing feeling. I was just standing on the bridge with nothing infront off me and just lept off into the river- a very insane concept but incredible. I was of course scared but I just didnt think about it until I had jumped. I just concentrated on getting off that ledge! The longer I left it the worse it would have been. Becky came on the bridge with me but was too scared to lean over and take pictures, haha. i am sooo tempted to jump the Nevis - the 2nd highest in Australasia or the world or something. 134m over a canyon!! Look it up on the internet. I wish we were in Queenstown for longer but sadly we have to leave early tomorrow. Theres so much going on here. We're off out in a minute because nearly every bar has been saying 'free drinks'! So how could we refuse!
