So, this is my first official travel blog entry! I will say up front it could be a little sketchy, especially because I've been going on little sleep. However, I figured if I didn't start it now the first day out, it would never happen.
We arrived in Budapest pretty rough and beat up after a prior weekend of guests and way too much partying. And, as anyone who knows me, I've adopted my father's genes of not sleeping before a trip. So, the night before the flight was my usual antics. After tossing and turning in bed for 4 hours, two Advil PM later, I found myself stacking the rugs in the bathroom and trying to sleep on the tile floor. Needless to say, I boarded the plane with baggy eyes and a bad attitude.
Luckily for me, the flight wasn't all that bad. A little champagne, pinot and port, plus some Xanax and I had a decent sleep. But this is what I have figured out. If you are traveling internationally, you MUST sleep on the plane to keep your sanity the next day. I don't care how you do it or what you have to do, you HAVE to sleep! I've had many sleepless international flights, and damn it, it's just not worth it. So, whether it's Ambien, Xanax, wine, Benadryl, or a combo of iit all, I fully support it.
Okay, so here we are to the entire purpose of this blog. Roger and I travel all the time and I am just horrible at keeping track of where we go and what we do. Years later I try and remember that great donut I had in North Carolina and I can't seem to pull it out of the back of my brain. So, I guess this will more be a personal journal for me, notes, or something of that nature.
Budapest here we are. You are a changing city. . . gritty, cosmopolitian, definitely Eastern European. Tonight, we managed to try out a Hungarian buffet with unlimited wine! We met a nice older French couple from Biarritz who were vacationing in Budapest. We have much to discover about this old city. I think we need to give you time before we judge you. But right now, you remind me of Prague, but not so pretty. . . and strangely a bit like Buenos Aires.
Must sleep now, but at least I have started you.
