Hi All,
Mom, want to let you know that Susan and I went to a French Catholic mass this morning. The church is in a small town called Bayeux, but the church is the size of Nortre Dame. Funny Susan never sang in church before, but she was singing with the French choir today. We had communion. The food is so good in france even the host tasted like a mini baguette.
Yesterday we visited the towns along Normany and frequented the many historical sights from World War Two. Omaha Beach, Pointe Du Hoc, and the American Cemetery. Point Du Hoc ia where the American Rangers scaled a beach shore cliff on one of the most heavily fortified areas of the French coast. Today you can still see these huge craters in the ground from the bombing that took place. The American cemetery was emotionally moving. Over 9000 graves of American soldiers. There also were remnants of German canons in bunkers that were used to bombard the Allied ships on D-Day.
At the end of the Day we had one of the most stressful periods of our trip. We could not find a hotel vacancy anywhere. We went to 3 towns and over 15 hotels. We ended up staying at the equivalent of a motel 6. It overlooked a cow pasture, susan tried to make friends with our animal neighbors after our buffet dinner with all of our other motel six type peeps at the friendly hotel diner.
We were exhausted this morning after the horrible bed we had to sleep in and decided to stay put and find another hotel in the same area, which we did. Tommorow, we are heading off by train to Paris where we head on after a few days.
Heading on home so our family doesnt forget who we are..
Love to all,
None to worse for the wear
