We stayed in the swankiest suburb of Durban, and possibly the swankiest of our b&bs to date. No pic of that,alas, but of Peter on the pier at Umhlanga. He said it was a Storm drain, or foul water outlet... But a plaque told us it had won an award.

A great deal has happened since previous entries, and we have done a lot. We have been to Pretoria and seen the impressive Union Buildings and the public gardens, visited the Voortrekker Monument, heard the Soweto Gospel Choir, been involved from a great distance in Mother's funeral, spent four days in the Kruger Park and seen Big Game (no leopards yet, though), stayed in the scruffily beautiful Royal Kingdom of Swaziland (our hotel claims to have been inspired b...

I said I would write a blog, and here it is - one week in. Peter spent weeks planning this (see cover photo), and so far we have: Thurs 20th: arrived, after 4-hour stop-over in Dubai; collected underpowered 6-gear Toyota Corolla from Avis; toured some areas of Johannesburg by accident - and found our 'B&B'.
