notes from the road
The road, my friends, the road
The more I think, the less I loathe
The less I think, the more I love
The road, the road, the road
It can't be properly explained. The journey I am on, the stories I have to tell, the bridges I have crossed, the people I have met. I, once again, have fallen in love with life. Not that I ever fell out of love. But as the fire still burns, this time more furiously than ever before, my desire has truly been rejuvenated beyond recognition. I sometimes think that I have lost something along the way. Then, sheepishly, I realize we all loose a little bit everyday. It's what we replace it with that changes who we are.
Some of this world is more fascinating than beautiful, but Laos seems to be both. A real gem lost in the unavoidable chaos that is western society. Communism is not a deterrent for these people, but a way of life. I now realize all of the lies I have been taught in school about a communist society. I long knew they were there, but now have experienced it first hand. To live within official borders of an organized and protected society, to these uneducated, disorganized, motley crue of various cultures and languages communism was and is the only option. Hidden beneath the American propaganda filled textbooks is a claim that a democratic republic is the best way for a society to function. "Democracy" as the Americans know it, breeds the same corruption and deception that communism does, possibly on a larger scale. We have all seen it. Perhaps more recently than we are comfortable admitting, but it is there none the less. And true, communism may not be the best solution, but there must be something better than this the united states of pigs. Our founding fathers knew that they had made mistakes and misjudged many things about the society they created. Because of this, they thought they had created a fail proof way of correcting themselves…amendments. These, I am afraid are used far too scarcely now days than they are needed. But, I also fear we may be too far deep in the quicksands of political corruption to dig ourselves out in a bloodless battle. I don't have all the answers, but truly this world possesses more radical, rebellious, brilliant, philosophical minds than it did just over two hundred and thirty short years ago. You may not know this, but the USA is actually a political experiment still in its final stages of testing in the lab before being proven as a working government system. Id like to think that we are actually pretty damn close to forming the most acceptable "necessary evil" that is government. But, I am also aware that it is a long road. Hopefully longer ahead than behind, but history will decide. Wasting time or performance art? I say performance art. But, alas, I am an optimist. All be it a very critical and skeptical one, but an optimist none the less and will continue to be until life proves more beneficial otherwise. As I have said before, "if you follow every dream, you might get lost." I will choose my dreams with caution, but never will I cease to follow. Till we meet again, yours truly and utterly in love.
