ok so im back from a few beers and ready to update you on the rest of my vietnam trip (with a beer only costing 50p its hard to say no)!
so, after leaving saigon i got theovernight train to Nha trang (13 hours). there was not much going on in nha tang to be honest. its a sea side town but its not high season at the momment so it was very quiet, the beaches were very nice but you get bugged all the time by the street sellers, an unfortunate theme running all through vietnam. walking down the street is an event in itself. "hey! you! wanna by a hat? tshirt?Painting?suit?Marajuana?Massage?motorbike?tuk tuk?cyclo?pinapple?bannana?.........the list goes on and even the most patient person gets a bit annoyed after a while. so i went on a day trip to a spa thingy and had a mud bath and massage and some really nice food on an island off nha trang where there were no hawkers, bliss!
after nha trang went to Hoi an, another ten hour train ride. Hoi an was much nicer it has very pretty french colonial buildings and a bit of culture, its situated on the river and is nice and chilled. we caught the edge of a cyclone on the second day and it just rained constantly for 4 days! sooo...
we got the bus to Hue. by the time we got there most of the roads were flooded and the place was like a ghost town, but we found a bar that was open and sat there watching the most amazing electrical storm ive ever seen! going home in the taxi was a laugh to coz the water was so high that we actualluy had about six inches of it in the car!! the strange thing was that by 7,30 the next day the rain had stopped and the flood water was gone, me and another group of people decided to hire some motorbike drivers to take us around and we asked them to take off the beaten track so to speak. it was amazing we went through all the side streets and into tiny villages saw how they make conical hats etc. The best part was when we stopped for lunch in a buddhist monastry. it was so beutiful.
from hue got another 12 hour train to hanoi. its another big city not as bad as saigon but the streets are very close together and everything seems on top of everything else. there is a really nice lake to escape to though, and if your up early enough you can see hundreds of people doing tai chi and stuff.
another cyclone has hit central vietnam same area i was in bout a week ago, so the weather is probably gonna turn nasty so ive brought my flight foward about a week.
ive really enjoyed asia but i am relly looking forward to getting out! get to a country that has tall people in it ! (ive banged my head so many times its unreal) so next stop Sydney!!!
tara for a bit
