Hannah and Liv's Travel Update
We set off this morning (wearing all our new jewellery!) for another long coach ride to Deogarh, to stay at one of India's best heritage hotels- the magnificent Deogarh Mahal Palace! The journey was just as bumpy and exciting as all the other, passing yet another crash on the side of the road! Our room was beautiful, very spacious with our own dressing room, and rows of hanging benches outside on the open landing where we could have a relaxing swing as we read our books! The pool was gorgeous, and too tempting for Liv, so she spent a lazy afternoon reading and sunbathing, as Hannah headed off for a train safari! We took a jeep ride to the nearby station about 20 minutes away, the station was cute and when the train arrived, hoards of people including lots of school children poured off, hanging out the bars covering the windows as the train pulled in! We were sat on the wooden slacks and luckily all got a seat as it was surprisingly empty- the scenery was beautiful, we rode right up into the mountains and hills, and got really close to all the wildlife. Luckily the train went slowly too so we could take lots of photos, and halfway it stopped at a specific point where monkeys wait to be fed! They were so confident and came right up to the windows to take biscuits out of our hands and even came racing through the door in excitement! I also got to hand out the door of the train as there was nothing to stop you falling out! On the way back in the jeeps we stopped for tea and coffee at another little roadside temple where more monkeys lurked and jumped all over the cars stealing people's food from bags on their motorbikes! Val was so tempted by one she had to pull it's tail as it sat on top of a car but regretted it when another came and lashed out at her in defense! We eventually got back to the hotel after dodging the machines retarmacking the road, and had a delicious tea with flavoured stuffed tomatoes! We stayed up late chatting with Rebecca, Manu and Catherine, getting really excited thinking about the adventures still to come after India!
