Hannah and Liv's Travel Update
We started the day with a 5 hour coach journey past yellow fields of mustard and red fields of chillis into the desert to the oasis point where we met our camels! Such an amazing sight to see them all coming over the dunes, some were decorated with necklaces and bells, and all had massive piles of blankets and grass strapped to the humps ready for us to board! It was a clear bright sunny day, a perfect start for this adventure! The guides cooked us a lovely lunch which we ate like a picnic as the camels filled up on water, then got on our camels! Most of the farmers were Muslims so wore long dark coloured clothes draped over them. Hannah led the way on day 1 on a camel called Asil, and Liv followed behind on Toto, as our friendly driver's motto was 'no run, no fun' we ended up running a lot of the way and stayed in the lead most of the time! He kept singing songs as we went along about two english girls riding camels, though not as loud as an old man behind on a camel warbling away extremely loudly across the still of the desert! We trekked for 3 and a half hours, stopping briefly at an old deserted village which had been left due to bad omens and never reinhabited due to this. We also passed tiny inhabited villages which are largely unaffected by modern civilisations. We arrived at the camp of multi-coloured tents, and after finding bushes to relieve ourselves behind, we sat around the campfire to watch the sunset. Once again the guides cooked for us, starting with some lovely pakora, and another much welcomed Kingfisher. We also had to layer up with every item of clothing we'd brought and blankets from the tents as the temperature dropped dramatically. We spent the evening around the fire watching traditional Rajasthani dancing and music, underneath the clear sky of stars.
