Hannah and Liv's Travel Update
Much of this morning was spent on a coach, as we made the long journey to Agra via Fatephur Sikri. This was an ancient Moghul capital dating back to 1571, and deserted after a lack of water 22 years later. The complex was massive, and intricately decorated with architecture showing blend of Islamic, Christian, Hindu and Buddhist styles. Our guide was an extremely crazy man with an annoying and theatrical voice. Unfortunately after it was deserted, an Iranian invasion meant all the gold had been looted, but the decoration was awesome enough, and the gardens were beautifully maintained with exquisite red flowers. Nextdoor was the Jami Masjid, a beautiful white marble mosque, surrounded by massive gates and tombs. We were bombarded by aggresive hawkers trying to sell us souvenirs as we tried to get back on the coach. The journey to Agra took the rest of the day, and we arrived at the most impressive hotel, the Man Singh Palace! We went out for a delicious supper with Rebecca before going back to the hotel to join our tour party for drinks as it was Catherine, Steph and Monica's last night before heading back to Delhi.
