Hi, it's Wednesday night. We just got back from a Tang Dynasty performance. It was magnificent. The colors of the costumes were beautiful. Today, we went to see the Terracotta Warriors (I know how to spell it now). They were amazing. It's hard to believe they were made 2,200 years ago. There were three pits. None of them are fully excavated. So far, over 6,000 soldiers/horses have been unearthed from the first pit. The second pit hasn't been excavated for the past ten years, because they're afraid of fungus destroying them. They estimate that there are about 1,000 soldiers in that pit, but only five have been unearthed. In pit number three, they've unearthed 68. Three more pits are set to be open to the public next year. It is estimated that when the first emperor of the Qin Dynasty (a different Qin Dynasty than the previous posts) died, they buried him with half the country's treasures, along with all the living craftsman and concubine that did not have children with the Emperor. In the afternoon, my dad and I biked with two people from our tour along the city wall. The city wall was built over 600 years ago, and there's a moat built all the way around it. Six hundred years ago, they didn't have cement, so they used egg white, kiwi juice and sticky rice as mortar. On the bus ride, our local guide, Julia, told us that almost 900 million people are farmers in China. That's almost three times the population of the whole United States. I forgot to mention yesterday, that when we were walking at he Summer Palace, a man was playing an unknown instrument. Our group had stopped in fron of him and he started to play America the Beautiful. He played the whole song and our group sang along. It was pretty neat.
Tomorrow we're off to Guilin. If I have computer access, I'll blog tomorrow. If not, keep checking back. Hope everybody is doing great!

Tracie Collins, MD Hello to you and your family. Your trip sounds so wonderful. Enjoy every minute of it and thanks for sharing your experience via the blog. Please tell your mom hello!! By the way, what does egg white look like after 600 years? Tracie
Rachel Bowman It sounds like you are all having an amazing adventure! I remember seeing a lot of rats when I was in China. Wouldn't the rats nibble away at egg whites, kiwi juice and rice? Maybe it was really bad rice crop and nothing wanted to eat it:)
Lori Roberts I can't wait to see what you have done every day. It makes me want to be there & experience all that you are. It sounds so very wonderful. What a wonderful opportunity to see it thru your eyes.
