Day 3
Another bright sunny day in the Caribbean. Once again it's a nice temp, mid to high 20's. here in St Kitts.
after breakfast we got off the boat and walked the short distance to St Kitts. Some guys with monkeys in nappies put them on us for pics, $10 each but so cute it was worth it.
We arranged a cab to take us to Friars Bay with a little touristy commentary along the way and some gentle ribbing about our cricket team thrown in for free lol In an attempt to limit the cleaning of his van he asked if we could both sit up with him in the front, all good but kind of funny when he suggested Pete ion the outside wear a seatbelt but I shouldn't worry cos they cant see if I did or not lol. Upon our arrival we were side tracked from our snorkelling plans by some scampering mongoose running about by the road.
Having arranged for our driver to come back in 4 hours we settled in on the volcanic beach's black sand. We weren't in the water long before we found a lot of treasures, Atlantic Blue tangs in vast numbers, a lot of other tangs incl mimics, many different very colourful wrasses, lemon peel angels and hundreds of another gorgeous angel, a semi-juvenile French Angel which was reddish black with gold stripes. Damsels of every hue and size, feather duster worms, some of which were bright yellow, fan corals some SPS and LPS. We came across a school of cuttlefish which were amazing and a large dragonet of some sort with blue on its "wings".
We did a couple of snorkels, some lounging on the sun beds and grabbed a snack at the bar where we, like hundreds before us, signed the wooden structure with our names and point of origin.
Fifteen minutes before the driver was due back we went up to the road and watched the antics of the mongoose til he came back. This time he had his young son with him and proceeded to pass him to me to sit on my knee so we could again not mess up the back of the van, again I didn't have a seat belt so chuckled to think how horrified everyone from right thinking nations would be at this casual treatment of his 2 and a half yo son. The boy wasn't any too happy at first at being passed off to a stranger but he soon settled down for the return ride to St Kitts.
We checked out a duty free store and bought a bottle of blue sapphire for $15 and southern comfort for $14 , both a litre! What a bargain!! We had to hand them in when we got back to the ship but will get them again on the last day so will have them for the rest of the trip.
A late lunch at the Windjammer Cafe, as has become our habit, was followed by an afternoon kip. It's a tough life but someone has to do it lol
I went back down the dock to the nearest bar, bought a huge vodka and soda and spent an hour on their wifi catching up on some emails. I managed to post one days blog but had problems with yesterday's one so it'll have to wait til tomorrow to get published.
Another laughter filled dinner with us the last to leave the restaurant. We've booked an excursion for tomorrow in Antigua, a combo kayaking, snorkelling and stingray experience so we are looking forward to that.
