England Dover to Poole 9.7.10
We arrived at Calais in time to catch the 3.30 ferry. It only takes 1 ½ hours to cross to Dover. The sea was flat calm. We set off towards the south east and kept going for about an hour before we called it quits for the day. It is so nice to be able to read the roadsigns,go into a supermarket and actually know what you are buying( we have already accumulated products which we thought were dishwashing liquid but were really a bleach or something else when we opened them) read the newspapers , understand what people are saying and to get to drive on the lefthand side of the road. It took me a while to figure out why the traffic was building up behind us all the time. I thought I was sticking to the speed limit then I realized that 50 meant 50 MPH that relates to 80kph. We stayed in this fairly ordinary campground for the night before we meandered down the coast the next day. Meander is about all you can do as the traffic volumes are huge even in the country areas.. We set sail towards Stonehenge and at the end of the day we stopped about 8k's away. We shouted ourselves our first Pub meal. Sue had bangers and mash (very ordinary) and I chose the homemade steak and mushroom pie which was very good. That night we had access to the internet so I checked out the whereabouts of the Ormiston awning company as we needed a new end to the awning after I got too close to a tree on our very first day we had the van. Found out that they were in Poole which was in our neighborhood so we decided to head there the next day.
We were told about this place called Avesbury which from all accounts was supposed to be better than Stonehenge and a lot more accessible. So the next day we headed off in that direction. When we got there it was rather disappointing. As Sue said it was nothing compared to Stonehenge.
We arrived at Poole late Sunday afternoon and after walk thru the streets we set off for a local campground.
Next day we went to the awning place only to find his orders hadn't arrived and they didn't have the pieces after all but we were given the address of the manufacturers in Hull so we will pick them up there.
