It's been another gorgeous day, sunny and warm.
Our drive today took us along the Oregon coast. If we weren't by the ocean we went through shady forests and small seaside communities.
Beautiful gentle surf beaches and calm sunlit bays littered with small bobbing boats; fishermen patiently competing with heron, cormorants, gulls and goose.
We stopped at a myrtle shop and I bought a little something for Ann. Some of the carvings were pretty spectacular but there's no way to get them home :-(
After Tullamook the road veered inland through mostly rural agricultural & pastoral areas or forests.
Back to the coast we stopped at a lovely bay for lunch. Under the watchful gaze of several smallish ravens and a large seagull I prepared lunch, a minor lapse on my part meant I lost more than half the roast beef off my salad! Cheeky bloody raven lol
We took a look further around the bay after lunch and were treated to a med size pod of whales just off shore, mostly spouts and back flashes but the occasional tail flip too, magic :-) some of the brown pelicans like we saw last year in Florida were flying about too.
At Ocean Shore Rec Park we walked down to the sea from the road above. Pete went in one direction and I headed off in another, both of us clambering over rocks. We ended up on opposite sides of a small inlet. On Pete's side he found rock pools with anemones and purple urchins. There was a pack of sea lions there playing about, ducking down flapping their tails as they poked around under the waves. We watched them for ages til it became apparent they wanted to come up where we were so we left them to it.
The coastline was varied, steep high cliffs, rocky and rough to low lying and calm with long sandy beaches and other areas with massive sand dunes. We went through tunnels and over bridges, some of which were very long.
We got to Coos Bay and settled in for the night.
