Well a bad night's sleep! I'm sure the bed was designed as an instrument of torture not a place to restore one's batteries! So awake half the night and up at five.
Well we set off on our long drive to Sweden (1390 kms) after breakfast - I use that term loosely, no tea, only cereals and tinned fruit plus a loaf of bread Linda liberated from the kitchen! Not a good start, but fortunately it did not set the tone for the rest of the day.
We arrived at the Eurotunnel terminal with enough time to grab a cup of coffee and check out the shops before boarding the train. The whole tunnel experience is a wonder to behold, it is so organized and efficient. We were away slightly ahead of time (not like the British Rail I remember from my youth) the 35 minute trip flew by and we were off the train in a flash and on the road. We had planned to have a stop over somewhere around Bremen or Hamburg but we made such good time and I was wide awake so we decided to keep going. If only the drivers and government could get our shambles of a road system to run half as good. I think we should campaign for the hiring of a German Transport Minister and German driving instructors. What a pleasure to be able to drive at twice the maximum Australian speed limit and feel so much safer, not to mention the major reduction in my normal driving stress Level.
The whole journey was an absolute driving pleasure for me. It was made even better by the wonderful reception we received in the early hours of the morning when we arrived in Helsingborg. Anna and Hendrik were waiting outside their apartment with a parking spot right outside the door. The apartment they secured for us to use while here is perfect!!! Right below their apartment in the centre of town. After a short but very warm welcome we crashed into bed for a well overdue sleep.
