Rings around the world
Ok, so after a 'quiet' trip through Vietnam, and of course a terrible journey from Vietnam to Loas, the partying picked up ever so slightly once i settled in Laos itself. I have to say Laos is now in my top 4 destinations of all time, after 9 days of pure fun..(the other three places being Ko Phi Phi, San Diego 'it means a whales vagina', and of course Susie Moss's dinner table.
I stayed in the capital (Vientienne) for a day and a night but nothing much was going on, and i was itching to get Vang Vieng for some tubing (the main reason everyone comes to laos). Vang Vieng turned out to be both chilled out and mental all at the same time. During the day time, all there pretty much is to do is go down the river on a big rubber tube, and float down about 3km down to the bottom. Doesnt sound that interesting, but when there are bars all the way down the river, that pull you in to get pissed, it gets a little bit lively. On top of that there's about 100 people doing it at the same time, and at each of the bars are a load of rope swings around 15-20 metres high, that fly you well high, and then obviously you land in the water, most of the time to some real pain, if like me your about as graceful as a buffalo. On my first day of tubing, i randomly ran into a group of Fayes Burtonion friend's, whom i hadn't seen in ages, so i ended up spending the next few days with them. They were a quality set of lads, and tubing became the norm during our day times. Night time on the town is quality too, as each beer costs a whole 50p a bottle, so again as you can imagine, drinking all day quickly becomes a night time affair too. On the first night, we all decided to get some mushroom shakes, and smoke some Opium, which went down like a lead balloon for me. The shakes did nothing, but as im not a big smoker, the opium quickly had me sunk into my chair in my own little world questioning my sanity. Probably wouldn't do it again, but it was something that i needed to tick off to say id done. The lads were goin in opposite directions through Laos, so we said or goodbyes, and i headed up north to a little town called Luang Prabang. There i met 2 lads from notts/brum (Tim and Chris), and an irish and american girl who were travelling together (Mo and Kate), and we spent the next 4 days chilling as a fivesome. Again, they were all a quality laugh, and i spent most of the week in stitches. The fivesome quickly became a twentysome at night, as there's only one bar open past 12, which everyone goes to, (i say a bar but it was more like someones front room than anything else.. and you needed some secret knocking code to get in the door). Highlights from Luang Prabang included some amazing waterfalls, being told that the music i listen to is 'vagina' music ha ha, and learning a new pose for photos known as the 'posh spice' (basically a pout with fingers.. but you need to say 'kiss ma teef' before you pout.. Doesnt sound funny but it is. Try it now.. see how you get on, hopefully people at work won't think your weird.Anyway i left the others yesterday and am now about to take another bus journey back to bangkok, where Kila and Kemp (mates from leeds for those who dont know them) are awaiting my arrival. 10 days of carnage are about to commence before i head to Malaysia then Oz.I've uploaded a load of new photo's on the web site so for Vietnam and Laos pictures go to www.statraveljournals.co.uk/stumoss Ok, thats about it, hope your all well, glad city are still top of the league, stay in touch..Love me x- comments
