On paper this was our easiest day. Only 89kms and 2800m of vertical ascent. Easyyyyyy......!
It turned out to be anything but that!
We headed out earlier today, approx 9am. First challenge was the Col des Saises followed by Cornet de Roselend.
I've never ridden Col des Saises before but the profile online looks moderate. Cormet de Roselend I have done twice before. I know this sucker well. Nobody else here, including the guides, has done this one before. I have some advantage.
So the tale of the tape is where it's at. Johan and Harri cracked Col de Saises first. I was the first Aussie over the line not far behind them. On Cormet de Roselend, there was 2 parts to the climb. The first 12kms to the lake and then the last 7km race to the top.
Johan and Harri were too strong again, followed by me once more. I'm hoping that Aussie recuperative powers are better than the Swedes so one of us Aussie's can knock these guys off on at least one of the "big" climbs on the days ahead.
Ultimately we finished in a little town called St Foy Tarentaise, at the Hotel Le Monal . Great spot this.
Another lung buster in store tomorrow.
