Hello everybody!!!! sorry its taken so long to put up my first entry but ive been very busy and everywhere is always packed. internet charges in the cafe im at are very high so i'll make it brief(ish)
Flight over to Hong Kong was not the greatest start and something i hope not to experience again!! we waited around in the airports for about 6 hours and when the boarding was called we were informed that our 12 hour flight to Hong Kong would be without any onboad entertainment as it had broken on previous flight. 12 of the most boring hours of our lifes later we arrived. The city itself is amazing but after the flight we just needed to crash at the hotel and catch up on some sleep. we then arrived at the hotel to be informed that we could not check in for another 6 hours. needless to say that we were pretty pissed off at this stage and decided that we werent gonna have it! sitting in the hotel reception having a go at 6 in the morning was not something i think the hotel staff could be arsed with either so they hurried it along and we were in our rooms within an hour.
First day, having catched up on some much needed sleep we decided to have a walk around the city. Ive never been in a city like this before with so many skyscrapers so i was veery impressed. the weather is very humid but that was expected and most places (even the crappy 9 pound a night hostels) have air con. first thing on our mind was to hit a bar.....must have walked for 2 hours and could not find a single bar! the one we did eventually find though was really nice but very expensive. most bars offer amazing views and varietys etc but we have not found a place yet which charges less than 3 pound a pint which has had a big impact on our wallets. we are now staying in the cheapest hostel we could find to compensate for the boozing. during the days we have mainly been doing the sightseeing you'd expect (i'll put the photos up later cos i dont have camera leads on me at moment). hong kong doesnt really have a nightlife during the weekdays, just old americans looking for the red light district. not many people our age around which has made it difficult to make friends. hopefully that will change when we get to thailand.
the cuisine is mostly v good however i did have a rather embarrising moment when i had another kellys party experience (newcastle lads will know) after eating from this s***ty back street restaurant.....will not happen again!!! just for the record though i was not drunk. other than that we have been enjoyed trying the different meals that hong kong has to offer. on our first night the restaurant staff all had a laugh at us trying to use chopsticks and also that the meal i ordered was apparently like ordering chips and icecream. was all good fun though and something i'll remember.
we hit our first hong kong club last night which wasnt exactly what i expected but was still a laugh. chick got into a dancing competition with 2 chinese girls called 'in' and 'wing' (work it out...classic). club staff are very wierd here as its almost like being in a restaurant. there are so many people walking around making sure your drinks are on coasters (something everyone is obsessed with here) and offering refills. good news is though that we have had it easy getting into places. we have had entry fees waived and also dont really have to follow any dress code as they let us in anyway. its just a shame that everywhere is full of old americans and phillipino w****s.   Â
city of lights symphany was amazing (chick didnt think so) and i have a good video of it which ill put up as soon as i sort myself out. anyway we are off to lantau today to see the giant budha which should be fun. i'll update probably in the next couple of days with my pictures. take care, stuÂ
