Kuala Lumpur! Great city, very friendly people but getting there was such a pain in the arse. From Kho Tao i had to get 1 boat and 4 separate buses which had a lot of waiting around in between. To top it off we got properly ripped of in thailand before crossing the border. At the travel company this horrible women told use that we needed at least 300 malaysian ringgit to get into the country- we didn't need to pay this, just show that we had malaysian money. This she told us was because the malaysian government wanted people to spend money in malaysia and it was therefore required. at 5 o'clock in the morning we didn't really have a choice as the bus driver confirmed what she said and told us he would leave us there if we didn't get across the border. So, not having much of a choice we accepted it and went to change our money. However, at 5 o'clock nowhere was open to do this except that horrible thai women. With nowhere open to check the exchange rate (we should have check earlier i know) we and no one else on the coach had a clue what it was! id also lost my lonely planet which usually tells you. Accepting that she would probably give us a s*** rate we reluctantly paid it believing that we had no other choice. Only when we got to the border did we find out that there was no 300 ringgit requirement and that the exchange rate was just over 7 ringgit to the pound, she's give us 4....b****!!!!! throughout asia i have been so good at not falling into any traps however this was an occasion when there really was nothing i could do about it if i didn't want to take the risk of getting left at the border!
Anyway once in Kuala Lumpur i lived it cheap for the next couple of days to compensate for loosing that money on the way down. Visited all the main attractions; Kuala Lumpur Tower, Petronas Towers, China Town and the Lake Gardens. City was very nice and it was nice to be in a capital again. Food in Kuala Lumpur was great (especially China Town) and the markets were just as impressive as anything thailand has (if not better). When i arrived (at 3am) i stayed in the first cheapish place i could find...was not nice. Prossies were definitely using the place so as soon i got out the sleeping bag and stayed firmly away from anything in the room. i checked out at 8am!
Well that's me almost up to date with my blogs. sorry they are all at once! im currently in singapore which i will post my blog once I've finished all my sightseeing. Right now though i have to go and find somewhere that is playing the footy tonight and doesn't charge 5 quid a pint!!!!! long shot in this place!
