Nadi to Mango Bay Resort (Coral Coast):
After being bored staying in Auckland most of the day lugging our backpacks everywhere with us, it was finaly time for our eagerly awaited trip to the Pacific Island of Fiji. So we arrived at 9:30PM at Nadi Airport instantly noticing the difference in temperature. Even at night its still in the 20's. After being with Stu's Mum in NZ for 3 days, she got an earlier flight to Fiji and met us at the 5 Star Westin Resort on Denarau Island later that night. We got a golf buggy to the room, pretty snazzy eh!
The next day we bathed in the sun before realising we should see some of the real Fiji, so we got a taxi into the main town centre of Nadi. Here you can really see a lot of poorness of the local people. The place is quite run down and a lot of people or 'scammers' as the more well-off Fijians call them trying to drag you into shops and sell you all sorts of things you generally don't need! After spending all than an hour around the town we hopped back on the taxi back and didn't really do anything productive for the rest of the day.
We did, however, the next day catch a boat to visit a remote, tiny island. It only took maximum 10 minutes to walk around the island which is called Vikua (i think) aka Mystery Island. We ended the day by doing the usual, watching the sun set, having a few beers and settling down for a nice dinner. Then it hit us. No more luxury for us! Josh and Stu were back on the Experience Buses the next day! This time the Feejee Experience! The bus will hopefully show us the real Fiji other than the 333 islands and glorious beaches that exist.
We've only experienced one day of action on the bus, but already we've visited Top 25 Beach in the World, Natadola Beach, even though a few eyebrows were raised at the title, the sea was amazing to look at. We also took part in some bodysurfing and football before having our BBQ. We also visited a nearby local village where kids laugh at you because they hardly ever see any white people around. We also saw a traditional bure, a place where people sleep. I mus confess now we did have to buy and then wear a sarong to visit the village as we had to cover our legs in a mark of respect and tradition. Yes we look very sassy and girly!
We got back on the bus to travel to Sigatoka to have a go at sandboarding, which looked pretty steep and high from the top! A daunting experience some would say but not for us MEN! ZOOOM is a word you could use to describe us going down the dune!
Our final stop was at the Mango Bay Resort which we have stayed now for 4 nights, which is situated on the south coast also know as the coral coast on the main Fijian island of Viti Levu. That night we came blooming 2nd in a quiz! How annoying! And took part in a traditonal Kava ceremony. It's a type of drink but not alcoholic thats meant to make your tongue numb - but it didn't and looks a bit like muddy water! But what the hell eh!
