Hello All
So we spent 2 days in Sanur in a place called "Bali Senia" it should have been called "Bali Senior" as i think we stayed in an Australian retirement home. Everyone was Australian & was over the age of 70. They also got pissed all day on Bintang - worse than the teens if you ask me!
Sanur was nice but very resorty. They had a Hyatt hotel with golf course etc etc.. You know the type - 150$ a night kind of place.
We stayed here for 2 nights & it was thunder & lightening, we thought our roof might leak as the hotel was as old as the other guests. Thankfully it didnt. :) We ran out in the rain to the little restaurant we liked that was quite cheap only to find there was a power cut so we had to sit and drink a bintang & wait for the power to come back on. Its a hard life!
After 2 days we got the boat to Lembongan which took about 25 mins & was one hell of a choppy ride.
We stayed in a place called "Yogi Beach" and it was soooo nice! only 4 rooms, all seperated in a garden. It was pure luxury, floor to ceiling windows & a really big, comfy bed! It was only 18$ so well worth it!
We stayed here for 3 days and didnt really do much as there wasn't much to do, which was nice. It felt like a little holiday from travelling, if thats possible!
I bought a fresh Tuna fish on the first night from the fish lady on the beach and Yogi the owner, along with a big russian man (another guest at the hotel) gutted it & seasoned it for me. Yogi built a fire
& they cooked the fish. We ate it with Nasi Goreng, (fried rice) salad & a LOT of Arak (local liquor) courtesy of the Russian. :) When we asked what he did for a living he told us he was a russian business man & wouldnt go into any more detail. Sam thinks hes a member of the KGB but after seeing him walk around for 3 days in his speedos, i dont think he is. He told us we are welcome in Russia any time. :)
Today we arrived in Ubud, cultural capital of Bali. Its raining, you'll all be pleased to hear!
I'm doing a yoga class tomorrow morning, then we're off to a monkey Sanctuary afterwards & might enrol in a cooking course the day after.
Ubud is where "Eat, Pray, Love" was filmed so might have to hunt down some of the characters as they apparently still live here doing there jobs they had in the film/book.
Hope its not too cold for you all back in the UK.
Lots of love
Vickey & Sam
