I wake up early with Yuliya and let in the dawn through the curtains. It is a beautiful day! Jamie wakes and we send him off into the next room to wake his sister! The kids have some breakfast and as promised I take Maia to the lake to do some early morning fishing! She doesn't quite understand the process but is delighted when a pull a small fish I didn't even realise was on my line out of the water! When we return to the house Sergey and Victor inform me we are going to do a few hours fishing at the canal! I pack my bag with the essentials- beer, iPad and speaker. We settle in a couple of places where I initially use sweetcorn to try and catch without success and then resort to bread! I have quite abit of luck and Sergey and me pull our half a dozen each! Enough to feed the cats but not big enough for us! The nice thing this morning is the fact I have brought my iPad and I relax whilst listening to some film podcasts!
When we return back to the house Jamie is in bed, and Maia has gone to Marinas for the morning. We go for a swim in the lake and when we return I take myself off to update my blog! Yuliya comes in to tell me that her mother is crying and very upset. She was coming out of the shed and stepped on one of the kittens which died as a result! Victor has already buried it and we will tell Maia it has run away! By Tania's reaction I thought I had killed the internet again.
Back on the road to the same lake as yesterday once Jamie had woken up. There is something I didn't tell you yesterday, and that is the fact that this lake has been condemned by the local council for being unfit for swimming in! Obviously the reason for this is the massive power station a stones throw away and probably the not so nice effluent that is being produced and deposited in the river and lake system around this area. The reason I brought this up is because when we arrived Dima, Ira and their little boy were away from the site to visit a doctor as something was wrong with their little boys little fella! My mind immediately bounces back to the not so elegant jetski incident where I swallowed a good mouthful of greenish lake water! I keep checking my own little fella to make sure it is intact or worse! It turned out to be an infection which made him permanently erect! I ran down to the lake and had 3 pints immediately!
A great day had by all! We had an amazing day in the forest as well as on the lake again! Whilst Dima and the family were on the lake the police came to visit our camp site, as they approached with their ticket book to charge us for something. Yuliya asked me to speak to them. In my broadest Mancunian I said "hello officer can I help you with something?". They closed their pad and I saw in their eyes that this would be a lot of paperwork! Yuliya took over and they asked us next time to be within 20 meters of the waterline when cooking with an open fire! Yuliya said there wouldn't be a next time! And the officers promptly left!
One change that I ensured happened this time at the lake was a change to the music we were playing! All around us for the past 2 days were what can only be described as techno bulls***! There was not one person with any decent tunes! I brought my iPad and Bose system and treated the forest and it's inhabitants to a mix of Pink Floyd, Nick Drake, The Stone Roses, Jack Savoretti and the Rolling Stones, none of which people were very happy about, but f*** it! I was! It was about time that people were introduced to a bit of westernised classics, honestly some of these people have never heard of Bob Marley, Mark Knopfler or Eric Clapton! I'm not saying I am not interested in being introduced to some Belarussian music but seriously some people are unaware of the Stones or the Beatles .....What's that about?
I spent a good half an hour zipping up and down the lake on the jet ski by myself, again experiencing the pure exhilaration of the speed and freedom! I want one but I don't think that it will go down well at Compstall! The girls went out with Ira whilst I looked after Jamie. He quietened down after a while with a mouthful of sweets and me drinking another of many shots of Vodka during the day! Eventually it was time for us to go home and we loaded into Victors car (him and Sergey having caught 40 fish whilst we were galavanting). On route we bought 2 first class tickets to Minsk to see friends on Wednesday afternoon! Whether Yuliya goes by herself or I come with her is yet to be decided as Jamie may have a 24hour panic attack if both of us go! We will see with a trial run tomorrow by leaving them both for a couple of hours! When we returned home I caught up with my emails and with my work wife on Skype! It was nice to catch up with some gossip but it brought to life the fact that I would be back home this time next week! Although it will be great to be home I will miss my family here and the life that they have. We went for a swim under the 'super moon' tonight! What a sight as it reflected off the waters surface!
Tomorrow I will be going with Sergey and Victor for an overnight fishing trip which should be interesting! But for now I am going to bed.. Night readers x
