After a great opening week in Auckland we headed north to the bay of islands. Margaret has taken a week of work and so the 3 of us headed to the northern tip to see the islands. We spent a day at Waitangi where the maori's tribes signed a peace treaty with the europeans, We seen our first haka and had a really great day. We were based in Paihia and went on a cruise around the islands to see the dolphins and all the different islands and there history. We went through the hole in the rock and the weather was perfect, we also went to the haruru falls. That night we had a lovely dinner in our motel and an early night. The next day we went to Waipoua Kauri Forest to see the biggest tree in New Zealand a kauri named Te-matua-ngahere these are the treees the maori tribes make the canoes out of and they are huge. A really enjoyable few days and seen a lot we stopped of in Whangarei for a coffee which is also a lovely place.
