So it's been a busy (and super hot!!!) few days!!! We're almost settled in, jetlag doesn't seem to have had an effect that we've noticed which is great!
Spent the first few days on Khao San Road in Bangkok which was an experience....no I do not want to go to a ping pong show and I do not have a need for any roses or frog sounding instruments...even after the 100th time of asking!!! Stayed at Buddy Lodge, room was lovely, despite the ants but think that's a bit of a theme here!!
Did a 6km waking tour of Bangkok, on possibly the hottest day ever, good tour but was suffering a little by the time we made it back to fall in the pool! Went to Wat Pho, home of the largest reclining Buddha and quite a special place! After that we tried to get to the Grand Palace but we're told we weren't covered up enough even though our knees and shoulders were covered. We're heading back to Bangkok in a few months though so will try again. Tried some street food...AMAZING!! Pad Thai with egg and chicken, yummy!!!
Got a minibus from our hotel to the next stop where we are now at Kanchanburi. At first glance it was a tiny little thing and we were rammed in like sardines!! But after a half hour journey mostly spent in traffic we were dropped off in god knows where and told our minibus would be half hour. This one was much better!! Space to spread out and even snooze, was a 2 hour journey so was really appreciated!!!
We're now staying in a place called PongPehn Guest House which is ok, rooms a bit basic compared to the last one but still a pool and views over the River Kwai so that's a bonus.
Went to a nice little bar/restaurant called Bells, Matthew tried a Panang Curry with Beef, pretty hot but he enjoyed it! Love that you have to take your shoes off everywhere really makes you feel more at home.
Today we went to the railway museum followed by a walk around the Allied War Cemetary both quite emotional but very interesting! Next we decided to walk to the bride over the river Kwai which seemed like only a small distance on the map we had, an hour later and in desperate need of some shade we made it and it was worth it!! To walk over and relive a bit of war time history was really inspiring. Deciding against the walk back to the hotel we tried our first Tuk Tuk type taxi probably got ripped off at 100 baht for a 5 minute drive but it would be the first time so far and it was an experience so we didn't mind.
Now sitting in the bar writing this, was the pool about 5 minutes ago but then the rains kicked in!! They're quite something!! Bit of a relief from the heat anyway!! Oh and you'll never guess Jacque, they're only blooming playing a Rod Stewart album!!!!!!!!
Tomorrow we're heading to the Jeath War Museum (the real one as opposed to the poor attempt at a fake we ended up at today!) and moving to a hostel called the Jolly Frog which was recommended so wish us luck!! Spending 2 more days here then moving on to Ayutthaya!
Hope I haven't missed anything! More soon!!
