Hello all, well here is my first attempt at doing a travel blog then!!
So were do I start?? Alot has happened in a week!!
So I'll start with my journey here. Got on my Emiratesd flight to Dubai and had the entire row to myself so could put me feet up. And was quite surprised to find Dubai airport a bit of a s*** hole!! Got on my flight to Bnagkok no problem and had planned on sleeping until a massively overwight German gentleman sat next to me decided he wamted to take his shoe's off which stank and then lean against me for the entire journey. Hope he get's an STI whilst he is in Thailand!!
Got to me hostel no bother which was lovely. Spent the rest of the day getting to know the area and ended up buying about 4 differesnt travel plugs convinced mine wasn't working, turns out I had to put the card in the slot to get power!! Spent that night in the hostel bar getting drunk with some Lancashire lads I met.
Next day got up and met Davin who had just arrived that day and we decided to go for an explore of Bangkok. Kind of gutted when we couldn't find certain places because the scaling on the map is s*** and then when we did fins them they were closed!! Bit of a wasted day. Plus, we went to book Davin's overnight train to Chang Mai in the travel agents and had to slink of quite sheepishly when the travel agent began insulting us in Thai to the other travel agnets because she was trying to rip us off!! We went to a club in the intercontinetal hotel that night with some of Davin's friend's whom live in Bangkok and got quite drunk. It helped that all the girls looked Like Kim Kardashian!!
Next day was alot better sightseeing wise. We decided to sack off the walking and hired a Tuk Tuk to take us round this time. So got to see Chinatown, The Lucky Budha and the Golden Mount (300 steps in the blistering heat!!). Got back that night and it was time to meet my tour group.
So in our merry little band is Nicci, Laura, Matt, Gemma, Dan, Angie, Alan, Lesley, Dan, Bud and Deb. I knew we would all get on well when we decided to have a team bonding session by going to see a ping pong show in Patpong after a few drinks on the Koh San Rd!! We fell for the usual trap of once we got in there they tried to charge us 3 times the agreed price, had a bit of a scuffle and got turfed out!! I stayed out drinking with Nicci and Laura in Patpong and then was forced to go on a mission to find a McDonald's!!
Next day got up and we all headed out to see the reclining Budha in Wot Po. The theme of the day was set when the taxi driver dropped us at the Grand Palace away from the rest of the tour group!! So me, Nicci, Gemma and Matt had to jump a Tuk Tuk and make our own way there, tahnkfully found everyone wandering round. The reclining Budha is 45 metres long and quite an impressive sight.
After that we did a canal tour of Bangkok, wasn't that impressed really, especially when the s***ty water kept splashing me!! After this we had a spot of lunch and tried to see the Grand Place, but it was shut!! So we all went to see the Golden Mount since no one else had been there yet. Once again the taxi's proofed less than helpful, but we got there in the end. After this we saw Jim Thompson's house and once again the taxi got lost and we all ended up split up!! Soemhow we managed to squeeze 5 people into a Tuk Tuk, no easy thing to do I can assure you!!
No we got on the overnight train to Chang Mai, got some SamSung whiskey in and broke out the cards. Didn't sleep to well, not the comfiest of journeeys and did not wake up freah as a daisy!!
Once in Chang Mai the highlight of the trip so far happened. We did an elephant trek and fed all the baby elephants and one of em was only 29 days old, it was awesome. My elephant ride partner was Dan and we had a good laugh, the trek lasted about 1 and a half hours. To be honest seemed a bit harsh on the elephants, but glad I did it. After that we headed up to the tiger zoo and had some lunch before we all got in with the baby tigers and then the biggest tiger, was ace.
As usual when we went to have a meal with Bom (our tour guide) at his fiance's place. After that we headed the night market and somehow lost Laura!! After spending a bit of time searching for her we ended up in a bar called the Riverside and got hammered on bottles of Samsung, we were drinking it by putting half red bull and half coke, lethal mix!! Even Lesly who is 60 was knocking it back!! After the search went on to find a bar ope which we did and think me and Nicci headed home about 5:30!! Great night though.
The next day there were a few sore heads and we all piled into a mini van and headed for Chang Kong and had a stop off at the white temple. Our guest house was right on the Mekong River and was bug central, got bit to death!! But had a nice meal with everyone and a few drinks before retiring.
Sadly I have to sign off now becuase we are off for a meal with a local family in Loas. I'll tell you about our 2 day adventure on a baot down the Mekong River tomorrow.
Hope you enjoy this and I miss you all,
Mup
