Steve and Lorna gallavanting around the world
The last weeks in Thailand were fabulous and what a treat with Steve's Mum joining us and sharing in our experience. We had 2 weeks of island hopping from Kho Phi Phi to Kho Lanta and lastly at Phuket. We sadly said our farewells and going back to reality and backpacker life Steve and I flew onto Malaysia - BORNEO.
Borneo was an awesome experience. What a magical place. With many highlights to bore you with.. So I will be short.
Over the Easter weekend we climbed a MOUNTAIN!!!!!!
Mt Kinabalu in Sabah, the highest in SE Asia at 4095m.
I am over the moon with my accomplishment - who would have thought!!!!!
Steve of course with his motivation and support to get me up there worked, we welcomed Easter Sunday at dawn, a beautiful sunrise it was.
It was a 2 day hike and my legs are still a little weary though!!!.
We also visited the magical Sipadan Island. Rated one of the best dive sites in all the world!. Steve did his scuba with the turtles and sharks, I on the other hand sunned it up on the secluded beach and snorkeled. It really was stunning.
The Orang Utan rehabilitation centre of Sepilok was interesting and a charming experience. Mann we love these creatures. So cute and human like. They are 96.4% genetically alike to humans after all!
Though the highlight I guess was being one of the fortunate to see an Orang Utan in the wild!!! This was on our 3 day jungle camp at Uncle Tan's on the Kinabatangan River. With our over enthusiastic guide - Lan, we got out of our boat and were literally about 15m below the beautiful female Orang Utan. What a highlight!!!!!!
The whole jungle camp was so worth it too - from the river safari's and the walks to the night hike - which was interesting in knee high mud. I even held a scorpion!!!! Go girl!
The 10 days in Borneo were jam packed and just amazing! Next we are off to Singapore for a day then onto Australia!!!
