Our last morning of packing up the van and setting off for a new destination. We left early hoping to get home to unpack in daylight. We reached Mitchell yesterday after a very early start from Longreach. In fact we broke our record and were on the road by 7.45am.we passed some interesting towns and really liked Barcaldine, it was a town we would like to go back to explore on anther trip. We left Lawn Hill behind and after traveling along 90 klms of dirt road we also left our dirt road travels behind, from that point on it is all black top. We left Katherine behind and we soon discovered we had also left behind the very hot weather. We stayed at Banka Banka, some 500kms down the Stuart Highway. It is an aboriginal community and the caravan park is run by a lovely couple who act as caretakers. Each night they open up a kiosk and have a campfire that anyone who stays is welcome to sit by. We set off early for Litchfield National Park because we were unable to book a site and with school holidays and lots of grey nomads wandering around the top end you need to get to unbooked sites before lunch or miss out.
