Wahooo !!!! Sydney here we come - I've been looking forward to this!
Right, I have a feeling this is going to be a busy week as I only arrived yesterday and already today we have gotten up early and travelled into Sydney (it's about 1.5 hours on the train each way) been on a tour of the Sydney Opera House and been to the Sydney Aquarium too.
I'm staying with Penny and Bob this week (Penny is Dad's cousin) and it's already been great fun - it's nice to see some family and nice to be in a different place exploring things.
The Opera House was lovely it was strange though, I never realised the outside shells weren't completely white (they are two different shades of beige and have a real defined outlines for each tile) and I didn't realise the concert hall was so small - when you look at the size of the building you imagine it to be a lot bigger than it was! Not that I still didn't love it, it's just that I was a little surprised by it, I thought it was going to be one grand space like the Royal Albert Hall or something?
Anyway, when we were on the tour we saw them setting up for the final of Australia's next top model which was being filmed at the Opera House, so I got to walk on the red carpet! (my one and only time!)
As we were leaving the Opera House, Bob noticed that there was a showing of Fritz Langs 'Metropolis' on with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra performing the score on the weekend….oooooooo….now that sounds good. I would LOVE to be able to go and see something in the Concert Hall, especially something like that. We'll see, I think it all depends on whether I stay with Penny & Bobs son Lee and his partner Milena at the end of the week or not yet.
After the Opera House we went to a restaurant on Circular Quay for lunch and then took the ferry round to Darling Harbour to go to the Aquarium - now that was fun!.
They had some very strange types of fish in there that I'd never seen before, not to mention they had two Dugongs (cuteeeee) but they also had coral reef displays - that was brilliant, it was like walking around in the middle of the Great Barrier Reef - amazing!
We spent a good couple of hours in there and by the time we got back to the train it was already nearly 7pm so we didn't end up getting back until about 8.30pm - a long day, everyone was totally shattered so we all went to bed before 10pm!
