Packed up our stuff from our groovy apartment and headed off about 10am. Goodbye Munchen, I can take away similar memories as I did every time I came here in my travels all those years ago. Our new German friends we met the other night told us not to go through Stuttgart as the southern drive is much nicer than the autobahn. With this in mind we consulted Ken the GPS and both came up with the same suggested route. It was a very nice drive around a lake (don't know the name but you can catch the ferry to Switzerland). There was also views to the alps but unfortunately the rain and very low cloud put a stop to that. As we neared Freiburg we got into the Black Forest which is also stunning scenery but again the weather not good for viewing. Found our hotel in Freiburg and basically dumped our stuff and went straight into town. Tram stop about 100m away so very handy. Had a walk around and it is a really nice little city. Apparently the old part has been rebuilt like most of these places after WW11 but you can't really tell. Stephen had done some research and found a Brauhaus so we eventually ended up there. Really nice little place and obviously very popular with locals and tourists alike. We had our last German schnitzel for the trip as back into France tomorrow. Only had a couple of beers and an early night as I think driving in the really heavy rain made us both tired, even though I'm just supervising I was still concentrating very hard to see the road.
