Just finished the last few days in Beijing. As you can see from the photos, we went to the Forbidden City where we had the most interesting audio guide. Firstly, when someone gives you a device that you're about to wear for 5 hours and says don't touch this button, that's just unfair! The guide was a good idea in theory: you had a digital map of the City which told you where you were and read you the appropriate information automatically. Only problem, the location technology needs to be a bit more accurate. We were sometimes read information about something over the next wall which you had to run to and then come back to where you started. Stephen's device missed out two locations all together and this being the place it is, there is no going back. The device did not repeat and Stephen was told if you've missed it, just carry on!
We've seen Tiananmen Square (architecture that puts you in your place!) but couldn't see the pickled Chairman as the mausoleum (or Maosoleum) was randomly closed. Saw Youth Chinese Acrobat theatre which was amazing - we couldn't believe the things these kids could do. Also saw the Olympic venues (Birds Nest Stadium with Christmas tree in - odd, as was the Santa, Snow White and Seven Dwarves Tableau!). The Lama Temple with 18 metre Buddha statue was amazing.
That's about it for Beijing. Tomorrow we're off to see some wall or other.
