Steph and Stevens travels!
Hello once again!
Wednesday morning we laid in the hammock reading our books until we got picked up by the boat to take us to our next island. After an hour on the boat we arrived at Coconut Bay, Naviti Island. Once again we were welcomed by the Bula song and they kindly took our bags for us lol. We didn't think that we would get any dinner because we were on the boat at dinner time, but they brought some out to us after we checked in which was nice because we were starving! After dinner we took a walk to Honeymoon beach which involved a 5 minute bush walk lol. We stayed there for about an hour before returning to the hotel. On the way back we stopped off at the hotel next door and used their swimming pool lol - its for their guests only! That night after a yummy tea we were entertained by the staff with singing and traditional dancing, which was very funny - we even had to do the Bula dance with them!
We woke up on Thursday to a lovely and sunny day. The staff took us on the boat around to Honeymoon beach for a picnic. The beach was absolutely stunning and while we were sunbathing and swimming, the staff went out on their boat to catch our dinner with this funny looking elastic band. They came back with plenty of fish to feed us all and we also had sausages and salad. It was really nice but the flies swarmed around us which got really annoying (the outback all over again). After lunch we stayed there for a few more hours before returning to the hotel. Before tea we relaxed in the hammock. Once again we were entertained by the staff after tea and they taught us a new dance which was very odd and repetitive!
Friday morning we went on a trip to the biggest village on the island. We went in their boat again but it went very fast and got extremely bumpy that we nearly fell out! Once we arrived we were welcomed by the chief of the village with a Kava ceremony. This is where you all sit in a circle and they offer you a bowl of Kava (traditional drink) and it looks like dirty water. You have to clap then say Bula before downing it. It is the worst drink you will ever taste and it is meant to numb your mouth and get you high - unfortunately it did neither! After this we looked around all the local womens craft which was all similar but good. Then when we sat down waiting for the others to finish, the chief 'offered' us more Kava - we didn't dare refuse! Then Bex (hotel manager) took us on a walk around the village. We visited their church (very tiny and cramped inside), the school (rugby posts made out of bamboo and very tall - looked odd) and all around the different houses! We then returned to the boat but we got 'offered' more Kava which we didn't refuse. Once back at our hotel after another fun boat ride we had another tasty lunch. Another afternoon spent relaxing in the hammocks before the Fiji night. They cooked us traditional food which was cooked in the ground and then afterwards they entertained us even more with songs and dances. There was a very funny man dancing and all the lady staff loved him lol!
Saturday was a very odd day. First of all we just relaxed at the hotel until we got picked up by the Flyer to take us back to the main land. Once we got back a bus took us to the airport where we got on our flight to LA at 10pm. The flight took us 10 hours and then we landed in LA at 1pm the same day we left after going over the date line and going back in time! It took about 1 hour 30 mins to get out of the airport before coming to our hostel which is right on Hollywood Boulevard. We then had to decide what to do with our second Saturday afternoon. So we just looked around before having tea then to bed to catch up on sleep.
Today we woke up at 10am and missed our free breakfast at the hostel. So we went to a typical American diner which were nice but their milkshakes were disgusting! We went to the Chinese Theatre were all the stars handprints and footprints are. So we took some pictures of the more interesting ones like Marilyn Monroe, d*** Van Dyke, Bruce Willis (only because it says Yippee Ki Yay on it lol), Tom Hanks, Jim Carey and Adam Sandler. There were other good ones but the slab of concrete was too big to get it all in. We then went into the mall and saw the hollywood sign from a viewing platform - bit too cloudy today so we will get a picture tomorrow! This afternoon we are going to take a walk down the walk of fame and take some pictures - very tacky but good fun lol!
We have became very excited because the final of American Idol is at the Kodak Theatre (across the road from our hostel) on Tuesday and Wednesday night. We did get quite into it in New Zealand when we had time to watch it lol. Also tomorrow night, the judges and the contestants are holding a press conference which we can go to. So we are going along to see Simon Cowell - very exciting lol!
No pictures added from Fiji because I forgot the cable :)
