Now this is slightly annoying as I have already typed this once and lost it all grrrrrr! So take 2..here we go! Well left Boston in our super dupa new car haha to start our first American road trip...with me chewing the dashboard, saying a few prayers and closing my eyes in total fear of the American roads...or possibly the combination of the American roads and Jonny's driving haha! Admittedly I could quite easily be the most impatient and nervous passenger at the best of times....my bad..but after about ten minutes it was time to chill otherwise I think I might of been thrown out the car! Jonny did pretty good fair play and we were well on our way to a place called Copake....well we didnt really know where the hell we were going and I was too much of a cheap skate to buy a road atlas in Boston (why bother when you can get loads of free ones and stick them together!!!!) but afetr a few hours driving we reached the signs we'd been looking for! Not long after leaving the interstate we found ourselves in the middle of nowhere...which at the time we didnt realise was going to be the trend over the next few days! There were no people, shops or cars...oh at least thats what we thought until I turned around and saw this truck right up our ass with massive headlights like you get in those films, two hillbillies in the front a dog and more than likely assumed there would be a shot gun somewhere...u getting the scene? Well perfect scene really for a horror...and a dizzy blonde in our car who could have got out and ran towards the truck if they tried to kill us lol! But lucky or us they passed and then it was just us the cows and lots of fields and farms...oh Anglesey springs to mind! The free map that I mentioned earlier served us well until the point when Jonny said..."Where next Steph?" ...oh dear well at this point my map ended so it was a guessing game after that! Yey great just what we wanted ...to be lost in some random village with no people or gas stations and an orange engine management light flashing on the dash..score! After about an hour of driving around we found a shop...so that was good news...bought food and alcohol...priorities...now just needed a campsite :-) Anyway we drove for a lifetime in one big circle until eventually Jonny asked some bikers where to go...so arrived at the campground which was a state park..Jonny goes to book in the office and comes out shaking his head! Gets in the car and tells me its closed for camping,...but the man said it would be open in two days! Oh yeah that really helps us! Aggghh! Anyways he directed us to another site which was really cool...set up our tent started a fire and ate our food which really I wouldnt even feed a dog so in the end we resorted to good old banana butties wahay! Had the s***test night sleep ever that night, heard the most bizzare animal noises and half way through the night we bottled it and got in the car cos it was FREEZING! obviously not quite hard core campers...but I made up for it the next day when I washed my hair in a pig trough in ice cold water...I got Jonny to take a picture for those of you who said I wouldnt survive two minutes without my dryer and straighteners! Told you I would haha! Had brain freeze for the rest of the day...but it was worth it :-) So the next day we got back in the car and headed off to the Finger Lakes!
