Cordoba 26.04.-01.05.11
On Tuesday, 26.04.11 I arrived in CORDOBA at 7am. At the bus station I met Brian from New Zealand who was also looking for a hostel. So we decided to take a taxi together to the Hostel PALENQUE which was right in the city centre. After we checked in, had a shower and some breakfast we decided to check out the main sight in the city centre. We walked through the nice pedestrian malls, to the PLAZA SAN MARTIN, IGELSIA CATEDRAL, UNIVERSIDAD NACIONAL DE CORDOBA and to the MUSEO DE BELLA ARTES. Later on we strolled through the nearby and pleasant PARQUE SARMIENTO. At 5pm I walked back as I was about to meet Vicki who I met months before on the farm Nibepo Aike. Well but as Vicky cancelled out appointment I stayed in the hostel and did some emailing instead.
The next day I decided to check out the town LA CUMBRE. I took the local bus at 11 am and arrived two hours later. Apart from one other girl from the USA I was the only guests at the hostel. It was 2pm and the nice lady from the hostel recommended me to walk to the CERRO CHRISTO and follow the trek to the "Dique ?" and from there to the Estancia where they bake the yummy "Alfajores"! Four hours later I arrived back in the nice little town of La Cumbre.
I had planned to go to the "Estancia Puesto Viojo" but unfortunately the only way to get there was by taxi and that would have cost about 130 Pesos one way which was quite a lot!!! Therefore I decided to leave La Cumbre and make my way to the German town of VILLA GENERAL BELGRANO. It took me more than 5 hours to get there but we drove around the DIQUE MOLLINO which was very nice.
In VILLA GENERAL BELGRANO I had a stopover of 1 ½ hours, so I strolled around town and took hundreds of photos of all the Bavarian style houses, cafes and restaurants. It was sooo funny to see so many restaurants and cafes with German names like: Maikaefer Restaurant, Frankfurter, Der Kuckuck, Edelweis Delikatessen etc.
At around 5pm I arrived at my final destination LA CUMBRECITA! A lot of people recommended this tiny little, German town, situated in the middle of the mountains and as soon as I arrived I loved it already. I was the only guest at the "Hostel La Cumbrecita" but I straight away checked in for two nights. After I went for a short stroll through town, where no cars were allowed, I felt like in Austria or Bavaria again!!!
Just check out my photo album "Belgrano-La Cumbrecita" and you will know why!
On my second day in La Cumbrecita I went for a walk up to the German Cemetery, Cascada Grande, La Olla, Lago de las Truchas and back into town where I had a hot chocolate. Even though that it was autumn and the wind was quite fresh, I enjoyed the long walk in the afternoon sun. At night I had a glass of wine with the owners (only guys!) and even talked a bit German…which didn't surprise me in this town.
The other morning, Friday, 30.04.11 I left the hostel at 7.45am in order to catch the bus to CORDOBA at 8am. I checked into the Hostel PALENQUE again so I had two more days in Cordoba. Originally I was planning to stay with Maxi another Couchsurfer in Cordoba. But as he had a sick friend staying with him for the whole week he couldn't host me… BUT he offered to catch up with me on Friday afternoon! So he picked me up at 2pm and drove me around the city of Cordoba. We stopped at his Golf Club for a coffee and later on we went to the suburb "Nueva Cordoba" where we visited a Handy craft market and went for a drink. We had a great afternoon and and interesting chat.
My last day in Cordoba was the 1st of May, "dia de trabajador" and unfortunately everything was closed in the big city. So I went back to the hostel were I updated my travel blog, organized my further travels and packed my backpack.
At 22.00pm I took the night bus to BUENOS AIRES.
