Kim's European Journey
Switzerland is amazing.
The train ride last night went much better than expected. We had a six person bunk room (3 beds on each wall) and the sixth person in the room was the sweetest girl named Elly from South Korea. She got off in the middle of the night in Frankfurt and left us a note thanking us for the wonderful time she had. Anyways I think we all got more sleep than we thought we would, aside from the fact that we woke up in the middle of the night dying from heat when the air conditioner stopped working. And when Rachel went to the bathroom in the middle of the night only to accidentally return to the wrong cabin. At least she figured it out before the people in the cabin woke up...
We arrived in Zurich at 8:20 and then took a train to Bern at 9:00. We ended up standing in between cars for this because the train was so full. Our last train was from Bern to Interlaken Ost (east) which got in around 11. The town of Interlaken has a population of 15,000 (although it seems smaller) and seems to be in the foothills of the Alps more than directly in the mountains.... but the foothills of the Alps are about as big as the Smokey Mountains. We havent seen our room yet, but we did reserve our spots to go canyoning tomorrow. Canyoning involves a series of activities including repelling down cliffs, jumping into glacier lakes, and riding down natural slides into the water. It is a 6 hour day and we are all really excited about it. Dont worry mom- we will wear helmets.
Im excited about the fact that I had wienerschnitzel for lunch with the peas that my Grandma Harriet used to make, Swiss chocolate after lunch and we are having fondue for dinner. For those of you who havent heard, the theme of this trip is "Anybody hungry?" "Yeah, I could eat" because it seems like that is all we do.
Being that tomorrow is the fourth of July, I am a little disappointed that we wont be seeing any fireworks. Apparantly there is a Hooters in town and they are having an independence day celebration so I assume we will be going to that.
There is an enormous St.Bernard dog that wanders around this hotel... gotta love it.
Nick thinks he can climb to the top of a nearby mountain. A mountain the size of the one in the picture on the left. We all told him we would pay him 200 euros if he did it, but I think the guy at the front desk talked him out of it. The other night, he bet me that when the menu price said £25 pp, it was for the total group. Obviously pp means per person and I won. He still hasnt bought me that dinner yet... nevertheless we decided he needs to rethink his bets before he shakes on it.
We wanted to take the train ride to the top of a nearby mountain because the view is supposed to be amazing, but it is 5 hours round trip and we wont have time.
One hour until we can check in to our room....
