Thought I might get up early this morning and go and get Sandra's breakfast, as you can see, l shouldn't have asked for a trolley.
After flying into Da Nang with a local airline, the flight time was one hour, due to us flying north the weather's a little cooler and lashing down with rain. We had a car waiting for us at the airport and twenty minutes later we arrived at our hotel.
We were very warmly received by our hosts and nothing is too much trouble for them. We are situated in a good location with plenty of bars and restaurants close by. There was a towel elephant on my bed, they obviously heard about my reputation.
We went for a walk along the riverbank and saw the four bridges all lit up, one in the impressive form of a Dragon spanning the mighty Han river. On the way back we called in a back street restaurant for a little food, and after much pointing at the pictures on the menu ordered prawns and squid. When the prawns arrived I pulled the head off one, it was still raw and blue in colour so I checked the rest by removing the heads, to my horror they were all the same.
I told the waiter I was not eating them, we like them cooked a little more thorough. He brings a barbecue out and places it on the table and places my now headless prawns on to cook, then tells everyone else in the restaurant I was trying to eat raw prawns. In the evening with the rain still pelting down and following a recommendation from the manager of our hotel, we are going to visit an international renowned restaurant called Madam Lan's tonight.
The hotel called us a taxi which took us to the restaurant, as it was raining he drove over the grass and right to the front door, we attempted to pay our fare, to which he politely refused, so naturally we assumed we would pay the hotel.
After a couple of hours we noticed this man waving from the doorway, I think that's the taxi driver says Sandra, he must have been passing and called in.
When we finished our what was yet again another delicious meal and went outside, here's the taxi driver sat in his cab waiting for us. Just over two hours he sat outside and waited, glad to see the meter was not running, after dropping us off the bill came to 100'000 Vietnamese dong which equates to £3.18.
My tip if you are in Da Nang is Madams Lan's for the food and if you can find that taxi driver life won't get much better. We rarely saw another Westener in this city and that probably added to the enjoyment, great place friendly people and the two days we spent there was about right. Well it's tam biet to Da Nang from us.
