After Landing in Cambodia, or to be more precise after we had a controlled crash landing (I think he nearly missed his stop). Leaving customs we were expecting a car transfer to our hotel in Siem Reap which did not materialise, it was no big deal as we were stood beside the taxi rank anyway and for a fare of seven dollars and a journey time of 15 minutes we were flying. The taxi driver thanked us for supporting him and his country by using his taxi and was our best friend when we pulled up at the hotel, he asked us what time we wanted picking up the next day to go to Angkor Wat while we explained we were not sure of our plans for the next day. Following his explanation that we were supporting him and his country, how could we not want him picking us up in the morning. Only 15 minutes in Cambodia & we have been stood up, supported a whole country, made and lost a best friend, sounds like this could be an interesting place.
Next day we got a tuk tuk then a boat to the floating villages, where you can see the floating homes, shops, schools, fish market and even a crocodile farm which we stopped at, and we even had a drink at the floating bar. The tuk tuk driver came on the boat with us (another friend) then took us back to our hotel at the end of the day, we only went to the floating villages on a spur of the moment whim and are really glad we did and would highly recommend this interesting and informative fun day out to all.
Phally our tuk tuk driver agreed to be our guide round Angkor Wat and asked if we wanted picking up at 5.30 am the next day, as we're now paying to put him through university, we thought he might not mind us having a lie in and agreed 7.30 pick up.
On the night time we strolled into town which is 5 minutes away ignoring the frenzied attack of the lesser spotted tuk tuk driver. The centre is very busy with pub street being the hive of activity, there are many restaurants to choose from particularly in a place called the alley. We ate there twice and both times the food was delicious, Sandra enjoyed her choice of curry and she also enjoyed my choice of fish.
Near the end of the alley is a small pub where a lot of fat baldy, aged fiftyish Englishmen (hang on that sounds a bit like me) are sat with young looking Cambodian boys who wear their caps with 'boys' written across the front.
Good enterprise I know but it was the special offer on the back that got me, buy one get one free. Not sure what they are up to, but asking that question often leads to a smack in the mouth.
Well that's all for today guys we have to be up early in the morning, goodnight or as they say in Cambodia - reatrey sous-dey.
