Stacey's Adventures
Hello again everyone-
So here I am again! Back in the USA! Back in California! Boy, I definitely didn't think that I would be saying this as soon as I am! But here I am!
Just an update for all y'all out there! After what was definitely the most excruciating trip home (2 hour taxi ride, 1 ½ flight from Temuco to Santiago, then over a 9 hour flight from Santiago to Atlanta, and a 4 hour flight from Atlanta to LAX!) Whew! Once there, my parents picked me up at the airport and it was straight to the emergency room at Hoag Hospital in Newport Beach! The doctor I saw there agreed that it definitely needed surgery and as soon as possible was best! Luckily, the doctor I was going to see on Tuesday to do the surgery was on call that day, came and saw me and tried to book the surgery for that afternoon or evening. Unfortunately, the operating room was behind schedule and booked up, so we decided to come back and have the surgery the next day, Monday!
So next day, I went in and after some complications with checking in, I finally was all ready and went under the knife!! Ooh!! Sounds menacing!! Actually, I have no idea!! They did a morphine spinal block on me, so I felt absolutely nothing for like the next 12 hours!! It was great!! And then, when I woke up, I had my own morphine pump with a button to push that would dispense it when I needed it (with a limit, of course!) Needless to say, I was feeling pretty good Monday night thru Tuesday!
Ok, so here's the deal on my leg: I broke 3 bones(my tibia, my fibula, those are the 2 leg bones, and another small bone in the back of my ankle) as well as having a subluxation of my ankle, or in other words, I severely dislocated my ankle! It's a VERY bad break according to all the doctors that have looked at it! Hey, when I do something, I am gonna do it all the way!!!
Anyways, it looks like I am gonna be laid up completely for at least 6 weeks. Then it's still quite a while longer for the rest of recovery; moon boot, physical therapy, you know the deal! So if you are looking for me anytime in the near future, it looks like you can find me on my parent's couch! They are taking care of me and catering to my every need! Or something like that!
If anyone feels an overwhelming need to entertain a poor old gimp like me, it would be greatly appreciated! I am going out of my mind and it's only the beginning of this long recovery process! Just trying to find things to do to pass my days, which is a lot more difficult than you would think! So any suggestions would be helpful too! You can still post on my site, email me at [email protected], find me on msn messenger all the time, or give me a call at 714-963-1177. Hope to hear from you soon!
I will be back on to finish my journals and I finished uploading the last of the pictures from my trip! Even though it was such a short time, I had an amazing experience and met people I hope to stay in touch with for years to come. Eventually, once (if, jk) I get better, I also can't wait to get back out there and see what else in store for me! For now at least, I have my pictures!!! =)
Chao,
Stacey
