Hello everyone,
Really sorry i havent been updating this blog recently just had a crazy crazy few weeks. travelled from cairns to Melbourne which is a long long distance. So on my last blog i was in Airlie Beach...think i had just been on the boat to the Whitsundays after i caught a 14 hours bus journey to Fraiser Island. Which was SO much fun! Basically 11 strangers hop into a 4x4 and drive around this small sandy island. We camped on the island for 2 nights. one night in a camping ground and one on the beach.
We had an itinery that we had to follow so the first day we drove to Lake Wabby ( I think that was the name) the lake was beautiful really really white sand and in the lake there is mud which aparently is really good for your skin so we all rubbed it on us for a good exfolient. The guy who organises the tour told us that its good to brush your teeth with the sand....so me being me decided to give it a try and for the rest of the day i just kept crunchy sand in my mouth! nice!
After we went to our camp site and set up camp for the night. then we drove to this place to do a small work. which was very short and only lasted 10 minutes.
That evening we made a BBQ or sausages and hot dogs which was actually pretty good!
The following day we woke up bright and early and drove to lake makenzie which again was really beautiful. i have never seen sand so white in my whole life. there was also a dingoe on the beach. Then we drove to the creek. which was a big green lake and huge sand dunes so we rolled down the sand dunes into the lake. which was really funny. It was quite a walk to this lake about 20/30 minutes through woodland and on the way there we walked no problem, didnt notice anything unusal then on the way back we saw one HUGE spider, then suddently we saw them everywhere it was quite funny how we missed them the first time round! some were massive all up in the trees.
After that we drove to our camp site which this night was on the beach. so no toilet, shower, BBQ but we had a gas stove so that night we made pasta. everyone was really tired from waking up so early so that evening was a quiet one think everyone was in bed by about 10! We also had a dingo in our camp but it left pretty quickly.
The following day we drove to the furthest point of the island called Indians head which apparently you can normally see sharks. we didnt see any unfortunatly all we saw was 2 stingrays.
After we drove to the shipwreck and then to the river for lunch.
The trip was great fun poss one of the best things i have done in australia as it was so different.
After Fraiser island i stayed an extra night in rainbow beach which was well needed to sleep on a bed and have a shower! never felt so minging in my whole life!
Then the following day i was up early to catch the bus to...surfers paradise!
Surfers was wicked i loved it. It was about a 11 hour journy i think but well worth it. IT was so different from any other town i have been to in oz not that big but had huge buildings and lots of nice restaurants and pubs and a nice beach! with huge waves! I stayed in a hostel with 3 irish guys (My Big Brothers) who adopted me from Surfers Paradise to Sydney.
In Surfers i just relaxed for a few days and partied with the guys it was fun. we stayed there 3 nights then headed down to Byron Bay.
Byron was OK. i had heard so much about it i was really excited to go but when i got there i was abit dissapointed. was a small town with a nice beach and few bars. we stayed in a really nice place there basically we had our own apartment with a lounge, kitchen, toilet. was nice to have some space instead of being in a tiny room with 8 other people. the Apartment had 2 rooms with 4 beds in each so we stayed in one and in the room next to us was 3 canadians we all got along great and had lots of fun playing drinking games in the apartment.
On our last day in Byron we had to check out at 10 and our coach wasnt until 9pm so 2 of the guys went and did a sky dive and me and gary went to the beach and just our luck as soon as he put sun tan lotion on it started raining. so we went to a bar to have some breakfast it stopped pretty quick so we went back on the beach and gery put on sun tan lotion and it started raining again! this time we rufused to leave so ended up laying on the beach in the rain!!! Then we realised the side of the beach we were on was under a huge black cloud and the other end was in sunshine...! so we moved to the other end of the beach which was a fair walk but least it was sunny. we saw a shark in the sea. the life guard was circling around it with his jetski trying to scare it off. it was quite close to the edge aswell where people were swimming. so after that i only went up to my knee in the sea. A few hours later the heavens opened and it was chucking it down! not what you need when you have to catch a 14 hour bus journy that evening! So for the rest of the day we just sat in the tv room waiting for out bus.
The bus we caught was to Sydney and omg what a city. I loved it so much was huge but clean and lots of swanky coctail bars (although we stayed in the irish pubs) and everyone dresses up during the day, it was really nice. when i was there i ended up just walking around each day and each day you saw something different. One part of the city is called the Rocks. It's about a 2 min walk from the main city and big sky scrapers but this place was so nice. little cobbled streets and shops and it was so quiet. The Opera house was impressive. more impressive at night though when its all lit up. the harbor was great, i caught a ferry to Manly beach which was also lovely and Darwin Harbor was nice. I think if i had to live in austrlia i would prob choose Sydney.
So i had to say a sad farewell to my 3 big brothers in sydney :-( as they went back to Ireland. Then i caught a flight to Melbourne which is where i am now!
Im staying in a place called St Kilda and its quite a nice small place but will be good for xmas and new year. Im with Stacey again! she arrived yesterday was crazy feels like we've havent been apart. so we will stay in Melbourne for xmas and New year then im heading of to New zealand and she is travelling up the gold coast.
Cant believe it's almost christmas! they dont really celebrate it here like back home. they have christmas lights up but never turn them on!
So i will write again in the new year before i go to New Zealand.
