Hi everyone.
Sorry i have been abit slack at updating my blogg im doing so much travelling i havent had time to stop and write.. So when i last wrote i was in port lincoln and i did my cage dive omg it was the best thing EVER!
We met at 6am and it was freezing cold (well 20 degress!) and we set sail to the neptune islands which is where the great white sharks were! it took 3 hours to get there and the sea was so rough everyone was very see sick including myself! But i think mine was sea sickness and a combination of nerves. Most people that know me know i hate going under water and i have never dived before so for the first time to do both in a cage with great white sharks swimming around was abit daunting! First i got my kit on ( a sexy divers suit!) then they put weights around my waste so i would sick to the bottom of the cage. I was the first person in the cage! had no idea how to use the breathing apperatus but i managed it. Then i went down and other people followed. The first time i was in the cage they didnt put enough weights on me so my feet were hanging on the edge where the gaps are in the cage. which i thought wasnt a good idea so i went up to the top and told the man. The the shark came and i missed it :-( as i was getting more weights on. i waited a short while whilst other people went in the cage then i went back down again and it was so wierd and so unreal. you cant really see the sharks when they come so your waiting for about half an hour looking around non stop and feeling very scared and then suddenly you look around and its there! I saw 2 sharks they werent as big as i imagined nore very agressive although one of them stuck his nose in the cage right next to me which was scarey but amazing being that close.
So it was a dream come true and i cant wait to do it again! if i get the chance but i loved it.
After Port Lincoln i headed back to Adelaide and stayed with Hilary a few more days then i cought a flight to Cairns!
Cairns was great fun. i stayed in a really good hostel and met loads of nice people. there isnt much to do in cairns during the day so it was mostly drinking sessions and night which i think i deserved after almost spending 2 weeks sober! I stayed in cairns for 3 or 4 days then i travelled to Magnetic island which is just a small island near Townsville. It was really nice long sandy beaches with no one on them. The main purpose of this trip was to go horse riding along the beach. another thing i have always wanted to do and it was sooooo much fun. had a long gallop along the shore adn then took there horses saddles off i swam bearback in the sea with them. was wicked. Where i was staying in Magnetic island was a koala sanctuary so i spend a afternoon in there holding Koalas and snakes. very touristy but dont think i could hold a Koala in england so it was worth it. I also nearly trod on a poisonus snake! not on purpose but i was walking along the road at night and i had my tourch Luckerly!! and there was a long snake about 1m in the road so i had to stand there for ages waiting for it to move as i was to scared to walk around it incase it attacked me! One of the girls in the hostle also found a funnel web so i was pretty scared that night kept thinking a snake or spider would be in my bed when i woke up! i only stayed on maggie island for 2 nights which i think was enough it was really beautifull but not much todo.
So after Maggis island i took a 8 hour bus journy to Airlie beach which is where i am now!
It's really nice here. Lots of backpackers and good night life. I have spent 2 days on a boat where i travelled to the WhitSunday Islands. There we went snorkeling which i loved and we went to Whitehaven beach which is one of the top 10 beaches in the world! it was really nice but because of stingers (small jellyfish that can kill you) you are not allowed to go in the water without a stinger suit. So we just relaxed in the sand although the water looked gorgeous. Oh we also saw dolphines which was cool they were jumping around behind the boat. Didnt see any reef sharks which i was dissapointed with as they are common in that area. But i think that was prob best as it would be abit scarey seeing one whilst snorkling.
Tonight i am heading off to Fraiser Island a nice 14 hours drive!!! yuk there i will be doing a 3 days 4 wheel drive safari so really excited you basically get left with 9 people and you camp and tour the island. Oh i also met another person from Wokingham last night!! crazy in a small pub on the otherside of the world!
So i will write asap but i have a crazy next few weeks travelling from cairns to sydney but I will keep you updated!
