Ok so yesterday (Friday) we were going to go to Doi Suthep which is a big temple the best in Chiang mai, but you have to walk up 365 steps to get too it. We jumped in a songathew and stopped at the zoo. Steve insisted we go there before the temple and it was only 2 quis each so bargain. Steve had a great time but i was shattered from rafting and find zoos boring. The only good thing abut it was we hand fed giraffe, elephant and hippos. It was really good. The Giraffe ate bananas and green beans and th hippos some roots that look a bit like ginger - their breath absolutely stinks and they have these massive great teeth!
After departing the zoo we had to wait for a songathew to take us up the very high moutain to Doi Suthep, the roads were very bendy and i felt so sick travelling up.
Climbing the steps to the temple was exhausting especially in 35 degrees heat! It was definately worth the trek, we watched the monks praying. It was so peaceful and enlightening!
On the way down the mountain we stopped at the waterfalls athe view was amzing we have never seen anything so beautiful. Many thai's were bathing in the streams that ran through the rocks and chilren were running around splashing each othe. It was so relaxing and nice to be able to cool down.
Back at our guest house we started talking to a guy from exeter who had just arrived we started talking abouut things to do and see around chiang mai and we decided we would al go to the Thai Boxing.
It was so much fun first theese two young boys came out and started fighting each other then the weight got heavier but these guys were still smal and skinny. The power they have in their kicks. One guy came out with a bloody nose. The best fight was between a new zealand fighter and a thai man. They really went for it until the thai guy gave up. Really hard to explain how good it was but we have recorded it so will have to see for yourselves!
We leave chaing mai today and i am gutted, we really have had a great time here. The staff at the green tulip house are amzing and the rooms are so nice and clean. Chiang mai is a great city. They still have the old moat and city walls that inclose the old city (which is where we are staying). The tarffic is much better than Bangkok however all traffic in Thailand is a an organised mess!
A thick cloud over hangs this great city because of the burning of the rice fields. Songathews and motorbikes are the main means of transport and a songathew will take you almost anywhere for around 20 baht about 50p. You will see many motorbikes/ mopeds go by with up to 4 people on tha back, many mums or dads will sit on the bike with their oddler holding onto the front. Its amazing because we have seen no accidents and the mess works. The bikes and cars just merge in and out of the traffic lanes.
We cath our train to bangkok at 3 then from there we are getting a train to krabi so that 24 - 36 hours of train travel. Cant wait! We could spend the night in bangkok but we dont like the city its too chaotic!
See you in Krabi!
