Our first day of work we were spilt into groups, POO, FOOD, & GRASS
I was into the Poo group which we had to scoop the poo and left over corn from the Elephants overnight accommodation, Surprisedly there was not much smell, a lot f bending and lifting.
We worked from 8 – around 10.30 in which we had free time to have lunch and another bathing of Elephants, After bath time Lek (Sangduen Chailet) the founder and director come to talked to us. Her dedication to the Elephants is amazing and her vision of training the first female Mahouts (a Mahout is an Elephant trainer each Elephants in the park one there own) is inspiring. Our afternoon jobs we helped plant tree's along the roadside which was very muddy and dirty but fun all the same.
Some free time before we watched a movie about the rescue of two elephants and how they come to the park, lead by a Dutch girl Annette she also spoke to us after the movie on how she first become part of the park and how coming to the Elephant Nature Park (ENP) as a volunteer changed her and had such an impact she wanted to go in screech of her own Ele's to rescue. She is still very much apart of ENP, Living in Chiang Mai and helping to build an Elephant jungle were they plan to have Elephants living freely. After dinner we had a small Thai lesson teaching us basic words and information about Thai culture.
