Day Seven: Monday, 26 March
Another day in St. Petersburg! Even though I think the city is so pretty, it is very polluted with dirt in the air and dust everywhere. All the cars are so dirty that the trucks would only wipe off the license plate with their hand! It would be like a brown back with random white spot showing their numbers- gross but funny! It was good we had another day here, my pictures from the first few days of the trip were deleted so I had to take as many as I could to remember what we had done previously when we wre here, and to get new stuff for today! We went to the top of St. Isaac's Cathedral, spiral staircases and steep ladders practically to get to the top. Once we made it up there it was a gorgeous sight! Taking pictures of the city overlooking all the sihts and places we have visited! We had the whole day free today. We had a lot of fun ust bumming around the town and spending the rest of our money at the Russian souenir market across from the Cathedral of Spilled Blood (a huge church with colorful onion shaped domes!) On our way back there were just three of us and we walked back from the opposite side of the city to our hotel. We thought we knew the way, but it turns out we had no idea. It was kind of funny. We ended up goin in a circle 1 and a half times until ew realized we had already been to where we were! We asked some nice man who spoke perfect English and we were back to the hotel in no time! The last niht in Russia was spend partying in the hotel room and enjoying each others company. It was, as always, a good time spent with International Studnents from all over Sweden!
Day Eight: Tuesday, 27 March
Today was a day of travelling on the bus. We became very close with that bus by the end of our trip- what with sleeping on it and touring on it and travlling for atleast 2 days straight on it! We left St. Petersburg bright and early and headed for Finland. We were fortunate enough to have the Russian forest market stop for us again on the side of the highway for our last minute cheap alcohol sale for good prices! We made a stop in Vyborg, Russia before the border at what the drivers called a "market." More like homeless people begging you for food and money. There were little kiosks though selling clothes and more everyday goods than souvenirs. Not so good for us tourists. I did buy a pair of wool gloves though, which would have come in handy in London- which I'll mention later in that blog! They also had a fresh food market.... fresh as in hanging from the hooks fresh and laid on cardboard! It was so nasty and stunk. So the stop to Vyborg was more scary and making sure no one pick pocketed you and keeping an eye out to stay safe!
We stoped through the Russian border and they had to check and make sure that we really stayed at the hotels we said we were staying at. Then they smuggly stamped our visas and we were on our way... After they searched the bus again too.
We sailed through to the Finnish passport control and headed back towards Turku, Finland where we boarded the boat and had a party on the ferry!
Day Nine: 28 March
Woke up early again with about 2 hours of sleep and we were in Stockholm! I wasn't heading back to Vaxjo, that's for sure... I was headed to London! I was going to the STockholm airport to London to meet the parents for two more weeks of travel!
