Today is Nick's birthday, we woke up as usual and waited for Nick. We had a gift for him from his parents and we all had planned a surprise party for him that afternoon. It was difficult to get him a decent birthday card so he ended up with pretty cut put Teddy bears and flowery well wishes from us all. There had been a little joke about BenTen a cartoon super hero going through the group so we bought him a Ben Ten ball to kick around. He took it all in good humour and was very happy to open his parents present. He got a voucher to do a drift car experience for when he got home.
Birthday wishes over for the day, we headed off to our placements again. Jack N didn't quite make the trip out and was sick in the car. So Judy and Jack turned around and went back to the flats. Lucky for Jack all he needed was some magic anti-nausea tablets and a day in bed.
When the group got back to the flats, Tessa and Rhys were to take Nick with them to their flat and delay him so we could all get to the party. Dubbed "chapati" for fun!
Judy, Brooke and Hannah and gone and hired the party room at the pizzahut and decked it put in Ben Ten style. We all got there and waited for the other three to arrive. From our window we could see them get out of the tuktuk and help Nick cross the road. He was blindfolded- you can't even imagine crossing a road in India let alone with a blind fold on.
Turtles him up the stairs and when he got to the room we all yelled surprise!
Nick was definitely surprised! We had a feast of pasta and pizza, too much to eat. We played pass the parcel and musical chairs, Judy gave out prizes and we told jokes.
It was an excellent party and it was good to forget that we were away from our world for a while.
When we got back to the flats went to a lecture by a dear lady called Dr Jaba she spoke to us about the women in India and how strong they are, she toldus ofthe laws that have been changed and the ones hat they are still trying to change. We learned that there are some terrible things happening to women in the name of culture. She talked to us about widow burning, honour killings and the abortions and killing of girl babies.
A sobering but fascinating lecture.
Overall, an excellent day, Nick had a great 18th, now he is just waiting to get home and have a party or chapati Aussie style!
