Today there were some very sick people when we were getting ready to go to placement. Nick, Jack B, Maddie and Hannah were all quite sick with vomiting and diarrhea. Judy had to go to placement so Brooke went off to the medical centre to play nurse. When they got to the doctor's it was quite obvious that they were getting worse and not better so Judy came in and they were taken to the hospital.
Initially they were all put on a drip and given anti-nausea drugs, this stopped the vomiting but they were still very dehydrated.
The three of them and Judy were very excited to be in an ambulance with the siren on charging across Delhi. The drugs had kicked in and even though they were still weak, their spirits were high.
Once at the hospital, there was a lot of waiting and drip feeding fluids. It took a few hours to check them into the wards. India has the highest employment rate in the world, everyone has a job! For this reason it takes a long time to get through processes. For example one person will open the door for you, then you line up to get a token to get into another line; then you line up with your token to get an appointment time, then you go upstairs to the administrator to confirm your appointment time and then you wait for thus doctor. Once you see the doctor she writes out a prescription and sends you back to the desk with the tokens, then you show the prescription to another person and pay a registration fee and the doctor's bill. After that you take the prescription for things such as saline and drips, needles, injections and stuff and then line up to pay for them. THEN you have to take the medicines up to Triage where they put you onto a bed and hook you up to a drip and administer the prescription. Meanwhile you go down to pay the triage bill after getting another token and lining up again!
See what I mean?
Anyway, back to the story...
We then had to wait for them to be discharged from the medical centre and taken to the hospital once there they finally started to get better.
Maddie was sent home before the hospital it turns out she had a bad flu.
Hannah was discharged first, but Jack B and Nick were fighting it out for last position. They were all fairly anxious that they would have to miss out on the visit to Agra. Judy spoke to the doctor about it and she stayed later for more blood results and finally gave the boys the all clear!
Phew!
They were glad to be back home!
