Yesterday after a good night sleep, we all gathered at the communal tables outside The Golden Villiage (our accommodation). We had to go through and sign the remaining paperwork required to teach at New Hope. The paper work just had the basic common sense things you shouldn't and should do when you are in the presents of the kids.
After a good 40 miunutes of going through two pages of paper work, we hopped on a tuk tuk headed for the Cambodian Cultural Centre! This cultural centre was fantastic! It had all the history of Cambodia in figurines, animals and displayed texts so this defiantly wasn't boring! After going through the few 'educational' rooms, our tour guide Pah showed us through the different creations they had on display. These were really interesting. There were animals, live hearts, various animals, maps and water features made into attractions for the public to have a look at. We were lucky enough to go through to watch a live show which was a troditional musical which had singing, dancing and improvising. After sitting on the concrete at the front, we happily moves through the attractions to find the traditional pretend wedding that Pah told us about. Pah recently got married and said that his wedding was set out like this whih made it more exciting!
We all walked in at different times, into the crowded room- it was a full house before all of the Saint Stephens crowd came in. A lady then came upto me after standing against the wall and asked was I able to go into the show as te Groom! I was hesitating weather to but then I rembembered this trip was for trying new things, so of corse, I replied YES! The lady asked for me to follow backstage where I was greeted by a man who didn't speak much English. He said 'follow what I do' which was a combination of movements which i had to do. After that he passed me onto a lady who didn't speak any English! This lady helped dressed me in the traditional Cambodian wedding dress. It was literally piece of long material (mine was purple) made into a dress with a pink shirt and a cardigan like grow over with food siquins. These colors really wouldnt if been my first pick for a groom on his wedding day! I followed the man in stage nervously just hoping he would guide me on what I should do. All of them were hinting at what I should do, which was tricky but thankfully was able to grasp what they wanted. After what felt like an hour on stage, I was married to a beautiful Cambodian lady who I has never met before! Fantastic!
Everyone clapped and cheered and then I was ushered off to change into my normal clothes! After this ouspiciius occasion, we went to the Ghost Caves in the park. Whilst we were walking Mr Doreington was telling everyone to vote for Jed. Once we had gotten there, everyone nominated Jed to go in... And myself! Thanks Ella for suggesting me! I nervous, so was Jed. We ended up chickening out after Pah told us his experience. Everyone then came into the cave! It was quite scary going by the stories. I think the scariest part was the man from New Hope behind me yelling out trying to scare me!!!
After this lovely day together, we caught the tuk tuk back to the Village where we then went back out to dinner in Pub Street! In in all, a very successful day with a lot of married joked to send me to sleep!
