Squirrel on tour
Hey peeps.
Well finally up to date on the journal entrys. Missions. In Canada now for a week and we our staying right next door to the library. Towards the end of my trip I have only just found out that internet is free in librays. So to all you travellers out there get registering with librarys all over the shot.
Well finally down to one more plane ticket, my return to sunny Wales. Scary to think I have been away for 4 months seems like only yesterday I left. Looking forward to coming back home now though. In case you guys have forgotten, one week today I will be at JFK airport ready to board.
So a bit about New York.
We were so excited to be flying to New York, however, as soon as we landed our bubble was burst so to speak. The weather was a shocker. For the first two days it poured none stop. As you can imagine the sun worshipers we have become we were not happy bunny's. To add accommodation was so expensive. Definetly the most expensive place of all our travels. After alot of ringing about we managed to book into a hotel / hostel, and we were given a lovely cozy room, the basement!!!!! The hostel reminded me of a motel out of one of those scary American films. You got to laugh.
After two days of rain the sun finally came out. Everything looked brighter, even the basement looked much more homely and you could say we were getting in the swing on New York life.
New York is Definetly one of my most favorite places I have visited. And no guessing why..Lol :) The shops are amazing, uber depressing though coz money is extremely dry in little P's bank :( However, Sam and I have had girly fun in the great Macys!!!! Its fab - everytime you walk through the cosmetic area people bombard you with offers to do your makeup and facials. So we made it a morning ritual of wandering through and getting pampered.
Apart from the pampering sessions we did manage to throw in some sightseeing. One day we headed to financial district and visited ground zero. Obviously it happened 5 years ago this Sep so they are in the process of building the freedom tower which is due to be finished in 2008. However, there is no escaping the eerie feeling you get when you enter the area.
On a more upbeat topic the next day we were determined to pack as much sightseeing into one day as we could. So for a bargain price we bought a day ticket which gave us free admission to all the major sights. So true to our word we started at 8am with a visit to Ellis island to see the statue of Liberty. Followed by a behind the scenes tour of Madison square gardens. In case you dont know Madison square gardens is the most famous arena in the world. Its famous for holding concerts and sporting events. One of the highlights of the tour is we got a sneaky peak of the Nicks and the Rangers changing rooms. Boy would I love to be a fly on the wall in that changing room!!
So after the educational side of sightseeing it was time to mingle with the celebs. Madame Tussauds. I can't even begin to describe how much fun we had in the space of an hour. At one point we had to walk through the chambers of horrors. Obviously the guys at the desk saw us coming. They made us go in separately to all the other groups and at the time we thought it was strange. But now we understand why. As soon as we entered till the time we finally left we screamed. They had real life actors in there who were grabbing us and chasing us around with axes. I know your probably thinking what a bunch of girls. But no word of a lie in the pitch dark and because we didn't expect it it was so scary. Im sure it amused the staff for the rest of the week. Wish I had it on film to show you how scared we really were. Very funny now though.
So after calming down we were given a tour of the background behind the famous American tv channel CNN. It was really interesting and I learnt some impressive facts which I will bagger on about to you when I get back. However, I think it would have been slightly more exciting if we were familiar with the channel a bit more. At points they started to go off on one and Sam and I were totally lost. To end a fun packed day we went up the Empire State building. For a min I felt like Meg Ryan...waiting for Tom Hanks!!! We went up it at night so we got to see New York in which I think is its best light. To top the incredible sights there were fireworks going off in the distance. Unfortunately my camera is poo at taking night pictures so I haven't got any pics to show you, but take it from me it was well worth the queing.
Just looked over the entry and I realise this is getting slightly long winded now. I cant believe so much went on in the space of 3 days.
Like I said in Canada now because however much we loved NY we couldn't afford to stay there for the two weeks before we came home. So randomly we choose to come to Canada which is working out alot cheaper. We will be returning to New York on Monday for 3 more days of NY madness.
Lots of love x x x
