I arrived in Interlaken yesterday. I took the train from Frankfurt. It takes about 5:30-6:00 hours. Interlaken is set between two lakes and is surrounded by mountains. When I arrived I had to try and find the hostel. It is not in the city center, but on the outskirts. The hostel is the oldest privately owned hostel in Switzerland. You can tell. It is a hodepodge of rooms. It was very difficult to find my room. All in all it hasn't been a bad hostel to stay at, but on the way I saw one that had a full all you can eat breakfast and swimming pools. I would have stayed there had I known. Anyway, Interlaken is a great town. Yesterday I could actually see the mountains so that was good. I took as many photos as I could. I was planning to take the train up into the mountains today. There is one train that takes you to the highest point a train can go in Switzerland and another that takes you to a gondola that takes you to the site of one of the Bond films. However, it is raining here and the visibility in these places is virtually non-existant. So it is not worth paying the money for the train. I had also planned to do some hiking here, but with the rain that has been cancelled as well. Disappointing. There is a big music festival starting tomorrow in Interlaken. They have about 40 bands coming here to play and people are allowed to camp at the concert venue. So the town is beggining to become crowded.
