Leaving Krabi, i flew to Singapore where i would spend the night at the airport in waiting for my next flight to Tokyo at 7am the next morning - i figured out that it wasnt worth staying at an hotel for 5 hours. Anyhow, its not like i need my sleep, i am on a long holiday! LOL
After an interesting flight where i spend most of the time talking to a Pensylvannian German American Lady, who had just been in Malaysia doing charity work and who kept taking to me about God, i arrived in Tokyo Narita airport - where i caught the bullet train to Misawa Station in north of Japan.
I was surprised how easy and quick it was to go there - changed train twice at Tokyo and Hachinohe and it only took 4 hours for the whole journey! very confortable trains and very fast! on my arrival at Misawa around 8pm, i was surprisingly welcomed by John who had been waiting for 1hr 30 at the station for me - after it only had been 10 days since we last saw each other, but i was really happy to see him again.
At last we would be able to spend some quality time together as John was working normal shift and would have his weekend off
Starting at 7.30am and finishing around 4pm - we would meet up for lunch at 11am with some of his work colleague who were very friendly. We would go to the food court on base where i would stuff myself with Taco Bell tortillas... Yum yum! and then do the tour of the shopping mall for 10 min before he went back to work.
the atmosphere at the shopping centre was a bit surreal as it was full of american military staff with their wifes and kids - in various uniforms - as this is a Air Force / Navy base. But so american - very loud, and some VERY big people! LOL Glad John is nothing like this!
I was surprised on how many unfit people were in military uniform - but that probably is a reflection of the american society...
The base itself is what you would expect - very boring buildings in beige colour... everything being so functional!
John's accomodation is just a small room in a big dormitory building (which reminded me of my years in boarding school!) but luckily he shares the bathroom with only one other guy. Despite not being there too often, he made it very homely: lots of cushions on the bed (and i mean a lot of them..LOL), souvenir from France on his desk (eiffel tower included)... i like it.
During the afternoon i would be walking in town or watching some TV, before John would come back to either go to gym, bowling or play the slot machine on base - then we would head in town for some diner - either sushi or ramen.
On the first weekend, me and John went with his friends John and Eden walking through shopping centre and games arcade, which was good fun and then on the second weekend, we took the local train to reach an aquarium where we watch a dolphin show and saw some seals, penguins... amongs other animals - John was in awe in front of the seals! LOL we had such a laugh - feeling like we were kids again! it was a really nice day out with my BF!
After 10 days, unfortunately it was time for me to leave. I would have certainly stayed longer but with John's current situation, it could have created problem. He probably was happy to see me go so that he could get the whole bed to himself! LOL Anyway, i would be back soon - in May for the blossoms!
