Hi all, well i thought it was time i updated you again. this willbe my last entry from bundaberg, as i have done my time and i am finally getting released from the cell block backpackers. I have beenin bundaberg for the last 14 weeks and i am out of here tonight on the 11pm bus, i cant wait. Well it has been a busy month in bundy. I shall try to say it all in date order. we celebrated Liam's 30th birthday with a bar b que in the hostel, that ended up to be a messy night especially for Liam who ended up craching about 10.30 on his birthday! A big group of us helped bundaberg celebrate its multicultural festival one sunday, that was a really exciting day, got to try different foods, and a group of the guys decided to ride a cammel - we come all this way and they ride a cammel in bundaberg! As the festival was exciting not, we decided that a bit of sunday drinking was needed, so we ended up sitting outside a bar all day, there was a special offer on bundy rum, so many people drank that, and received a free hat - i wasnt that desperate for a hat! In the evening we moved onto another bar, where a couple of guys who were with us as the beginning ofour stay were passing through and came and found us. The poor guys arrived att he hostel about 2pm expecting us to be back, and waited for a few hours not knowing where any of us were. Eventually they found someone they knew who brought them to the pub, it was a big surprise because noone knew they were coming.
On one of my days off i ventured away from the hostel to the bundaberg rum distillary. the place stank of mellasis, not a pleasant smell, it got up my nose and stayed with me for a few days. the best thing of all was getting the 2 free drinks! i still dont like bundaberg rum, althought the liquer served on milk was rather nice. The same weekend we had a barbeque in the park again. I decided to not drink that night as not feeling well, so as you can imagine i ended up playing mum as many people got a tad drunk and i ended up being the one holding back their hair when they were ill, great way to spend a saturday night.
At the beginning of October the hostel had its first birthday party, so as you can imagine a bit of a drinking session went on with everyone in the hostel. The owner decided to open the bar at 9.30 am on that sunday, initially giving away free jugs of beer and cider, many a person took advantage of this - i must be getting old as i cant think of anything worse than drinking at 9.30 in the morning. By lunch time we were all messing around in the pool, had suasages cooked by the owners and then the highlight of the day was the mellasis wrestling. vEry messy and very smelly. There was a gilrs competition and a guys competition, the winner of both got a free weeks rent. i didnt goin for it as couldnt afford to iunjury my ankle at such a close timeto leaving cellblock, there were a few scratches and other injuries and i think people hurt for several days after!
The following week was a celebration of 3 birthdays- kylie's onthe thursday, mineon the saturday and Elle's on the monday. On the thursday about 20 of us went out for dinner to the local chinese, and marie bless her brought out a chocolate cake forthe 3 of us - lets just say that didnt last long! The next day i got up really early - 5am (i know shock) to go out snorkelling on lady musgrove island. I got picked up at 6am, driven for 2 hours in a really bumpy mini bus to pick up the boat. Well waht can i say, what an amazing day - we saw a hump back whale swim right up close to the boat, it was a mum and a pup. The reef was beautiful, it was so clear, got to see a see turtleand then on the way back we saw a dolphin riding the waves. I could have done with out the early start as i was a little hung over fromthe night before! On the saturday night, we had a fancy dress party where the theme was good guys and bad guys, a group of us went as the swat team. it was a great night\, everyone had made the effort and looked really good. Well that was a really good way to spend my birthday, and in my true style i managed to get kisses of most guys in the hostel.
The mass departure has already started and there are hardly any one i know in the hostel now. I am now ready to leave, so i am getting out on godd behaviour!
Bye for now, The next time you hear from me i will either be in ayres rock or starting out in new zealand.
